This is what I found in the cellar
Hey everybody. I am new here so sorry If should use any older thread. I found old road bike in my dad's cellar in Czech Republic and I would like to restore it. Unfortunately there are no labels on it... There is badly seen label on the rear tube which I read as "Rhazunser" - could be swiss mineral water. What I am 99% certain - bike is not from Czech. There is no front derailleur. Cranks are from Ofmega. Pedals look very cheap but I do not know the brand which is seen on the photo of the pedal in the gallery. Shifter is from Suntour but the rear derailleur is Shimano Altus - not original I would say. As it is very badly visible from second last picture of the gallery, there is Suntour sign under the paint so this bike must have been go originaly with Suntour groupset. I do not have any idea what could be the original Suntour derailleur. Bottom bracket is from Germany and rear break is Weinmann 500 (front one is czech and was definitely added later) - so it looks like international mix of everything ))
I can not identify the frame. Could be Reynolds but....There is number 788 on the front fork. As you can see on pictures, there is some logo on spot connecting upper tube and the head tube. There is also number 73 in the same area. Bike serial number is 4611.
I would appreciate any info or advice...Thanks a lot. Tom

Looks like a "Frankenbike" with a mid level very late 70's/early 80's (Note the Suntour short slot horizontal rear dropouts from that time and the clamped on DT shifters) frame and a mishmash of components hung on it. Plain domed stay ends and dropout eylets say that this is not top of the line and more of a sport/tour model than an all out racer, I dunno, (wild guess) maybe it's a Puch/Austro Daimler that had it's graphics taken off and/or repainted. From what I see, a pretty decent, solid looking bike of good quality construction and materials none the less, and well worth getting back on the road. The components seem to be servicable enough to consider keeping too, till you find stuff you might find more desirable on it later.

The 25.4mm seatpost would suggest either French size tubing (28.0mm O.D. seat tube) or very thick walled tubing if the seat tube is English size (28.6mm O.D.). Even with French size tubing, the seat tube would have 1.2mm walls (very thick and heavy). It's likely hi-ten and straight gauge. I seriously doubt it's 531 or even chromoly.
Did you happen to weigh the frame and fork only?

Hard to tell...
It looks like an East German bike, but
the bottom bracket seems to have Italian thread.
(although it says: made in Germany)
I read "alps" (mountains in Italy) on the steer.
Anyway, nice project bike I'd say.
Kind regards

Thanks for advices. I am gonna weigh the frame and fork hopefully next week. I am more studying AD/Puch now, it could be the right way. What suprises me is very short serial number.....
GraveTim: Why do you think that it is from east Germany?
kc0yef: You mean that the brand is Rhäzün? I did not find any info about bikes called by this name...

I thought it was East-German because of the bird on the crank. (looks a bit like the logo of Express Werke)
But it could easily be an Austrian bike as well...
As I said, hard to tell...

Interesting road bike definetly looks worth fixing up and keeping. Looks to be a nicer eastern european frame from the late 70's that someone built up with grey black market components from the west. This is a bike that seems to have very interesting in the least background history to bad you don't know the story of the bikes origin. The BB is likely Swiss not Itailian.
