I've been talking to other people on here about the bike's tires and see if I could change it to 700c.

If I am able to change it to 700c, I'm not going to sell it. But if I can't, I'm going to try and sell it and see if I could buy a new road bike that is equipped with the 700c tires.

The bike itself is in near perfect condition. The rear tire is flat due to a snakebite. The front tire is a Kenda. The tires are 27x1[SUP]1[/SUP]/[SUB]4[/SUB] and are on a Steel Rim. Requires Schrader Valve Stems. Rim's are in "okay" condition.

The bicycle seat was replaced. The brakes are "okay" and the handlebars are okay. I'll post some pictures a little bit later.

The cassette's been replaced. The bike rides smooth.

This is market dependent. Patch the rear tube and re-inflate it for the sale photos. Shine everything as best you can. What about brake pads? Replaced the freewheel but not the chain? Hopefully it's never been ridden too much and the chain isn't worn.

Bottom line...$50? $75 on a good day?

I'd have to see photos to make certain that we're not talking about some higher quality Sears product that carried the Free Spirit name. Is the frame lugged? What are the derailleurs? Alloy crankset?

The bike was made in 1981. I don't know how to tell if the frame is lugged or not. What's a derailleurs. How can I tell all that?

I've never sold a bike before. I'm not a bike expert, as you can tell, so you'll need to explain what that is and how I can figure all that out.

Based on this, and the description of the bike, and the brand, I would donate it. At best, around here as is, it might bring $25. Measure the hassle of selling a bike: creating a listing, dealing with the scammers and no shows, either hauling the bike to some mutually convenient location, etc. What is your time worth?

As far as converting to 700c wheels, depends how resourceful you are. First you will need wheels, tires, and tubes, most likely a new freewheel and chain, adjust the brake calipers, and go. The cost of what I just described depends on you. You could spend $200 on the high end doing what I just mentioned. Google 700c conversion, they can walk you through it.

Lugged = frame tubes fit into sleeved "lugs" at all of the joints, providing both decoration and extra thickness for strength.

Derailleurs = gear change mechanisms that are controlled by a cable and a return spring. There will be a name cast onto each. What is the name? Is the material aluminum or steel?

Is the crankset made of shiny steel or have signs of rust? Or is it made of aluminum alloy? A magnet can help you here. Any name on it?

Wrk101 is right. Donate if you're not contemplating doing the work yourself. Given your lack of experience, look for a complete bike that's what you want...

For what it's worth, ModelT, I have two Sears Free Spirit ladies bikes that I'm fixing up right now for resale. Both were "free" to me originally, but I'll have the cost of tires, tubes, cables, brakepads, and in one case a shiftcable assembly (don't ask). Each will look "new" when I list it and I'll present these as "back to school" bargains for college students. I hope to sell each for $125. Hardly worth the effort... PG

Yes, that's what mine looks like (it's identical.)

IDK, I'll have to go out to the bike to see about all the mechanical stuff.
