I have a team huffy frame from 1985 that was supposed to be raced by greg lemond and im not sure if I should sell it or build it up, what do you guys think its worth?

Pictures? Any sort of documentation saying it was raced by Lemond?

I will try to get some pics up. But the story behind this frame was in the late 90's my roommate was Greg Lemond's nephew "Greg's sister's son". My roommate was going to college at the time and was broke so His grandfather "Greg's dad" started sending him frames and parts he had left over from there bike company and racing days to sell. This frame was the only thing that really caught my eye so I bought it from him and he said that greg raced it. Im on the fence if I should build it or sell it and just wanted some input?

Could be anything. Got the fork? Need some really detailed closeups to help. A family tree of the Lemond family would also be helpful.

Right size, number hanger, looks like a signature or is that a decal?

its a 56cm it has a cinelli bottom bracket shell and campagnolo drop outs. The signature is a decal also there is no fork.

I'd like some better detail shots. I believe these were Serottas. Greg LeMond's cycling book is full of images of him riding similar frames. Where is the serial number located? How many digits? First two digits? More info...

...even given all that, I would hate to place an estimate on this bike. The rarer/odder they get, the harder it is to do.

It looks like a nice frame. As Jake says do you or can you get any proof? If you can atleast prove it is a Serotta team frame that would be one thing. Then proving Greg rode it.... and even race it? other wise you end up here.



Again it looks like a nice frame. If your building it a chrome fork would be the way to go.

If there is a "DS" in the bottom bracket, it could be the real deal. Many of LeMond's frames were made Della Santa.

If it is your size, build it up and ride it.

I think Jet is right this time....there would probably be a DS on the bb. I think Della Santa made those. He did make alot of Lemonds early steel frames. You could even send an email to gregs dad as he has a real estate business in Reno and has an email address listed. No fork hurts alot. These were built up with super record.

There is no serial number and I dont see a "DS" anywhere but from what I have found on the internet it was built by Della Santa and this is pre 7 eleven team frame it might have been raced in the worlds or the coors light classic. Does anybody have any suggestions on who I could contact as an expert on this kind of stuff?

I'd keep it and build it up, just for the fun of occasionally taking it into bike shops for minor work and watching them trying to figure out what it is :-)

Roland Della Santa stills builds frames. Why not contact the man himself?

See my message above. Should be easy to check as gregs dad and della santa are both in reno and fairly easy to get a hold of. I suppose some of those huffys could have been made else where as greg was riding for Hinault at that time and it may have been made by one of the french firms. pre 7-11?? greg never rode for that team you know. Perhaps pre ADR team would be a better term

Honestly...if the question is strictly about a dollar value, I'd move on. Even assuming you could establish provenance, and I don't think that you can, it doesn't have the fork and I think that seriously impacts value. I just don't see this as being especially collectible or valuable with what you have and know.

Personally I would build it up and enjoy riding it if it fit. It's probably worth more as a riding frame than it is on the market.

Dont think there are any nice quality huffys anywhere...although there are alot of nice quality bikes badged as huffys.
