Hi Guys first time on this forum and new to the community. I am very excited about two bikes I got from my bro-in-law. He bought this one around 1980 from his bike shop called Orange Cycles in Orange, CA. he thinks he bought it in 1980 but he can't remember exactly. Anyway he let me have it for free so I am really excited. I hope to get advise as to what components I should keep and what components I should replace with new ones.

This is all new to me so I am willing to learn and make mistakes. I am posting on here mainly to get an ID on the model. After reading some posts especially the Nishiki Serial Number thread. I figured this was a pre 1975, U.S-sold Nishiki International. The pics you see below are crappy cell phone pics. I promise to take some high resolution photos very soon.

Any comments or questions or advise would be greatly appreciated. p.s. after measuring the bike this thing is way huge. I am 5'9" and my brother in law is over 6 foot. I will most likely be getting rid of this as a trade later since I don't think I will be able to ride this one.

It seems to be at least a 62cm frame. Definitely too big a frame for someone 5'-9" tall.....
Looks to be a decent, well made Japanese bike that just needs a lot of cleaning to sell. Not that familiar with this bike, but it looks like it could be a lower model, judging from the components installed on it and kind of plain paintjob and graphics. The big size kinda hurts its market value. I'd say it should sell for about 170 bucks Max. if cleaned up really well and serviced. A smaller, more popular size like a 56cm might fetch up to $200, or slightly more in the hottest markets at the right time.

Break out the steel wool or SOS pads and bring all the rusty parts back to life and give it a good cleaning and it should sell. Do not repaint or anything like that, just get it shiny again and do some maint/repairs so you can get you a bike that fits.

Thank you to everyone who has commented and given some advise on this bike. Now I am a bit perplexed as to what to do with it. On the one had I want to restore and make it look really nice and shiny for the fun of it and experience. But in the end this bike won't fit me so I would have to sell or trade. Is it worth the money and time I would put in to it... Should I just clean it up a bit and get it working and sell it as a working bike/project bike. Or like someone said above, sell as is.
