Info on a Takara

Hi all,

I just got this Takara, paid $150 for it. Came with mirror, odometer, water bottle, on-frame air pump, and rear rack for accessories. Original seat. Do you think it was worth it/ what would you say the value is?

Also, need to replace a tube, so assuming these are 27"?

Thanks!

Forgive the "duh" wheel question, just starting out with bikes.

Welcome, @velociped! I've no experience with the Takara brand, but $150 is a good price if the bike looks good, rides well and - last but not least - is your size. The wheel size should be visible on your tires somewhere (630 is 27", 622 is 700c). For inner tubes the difference is of no consequence, BTW.
If the bike hasn't been serviced in a while, or you're not sure, it might be a good idea to have the bearings repacked. Old grease tends to turn solid. Some other suggestions: tip the saddle backward a bit so it's level (it'll be more comfy); see if you can route the rear brake cable over the handlebars (like the front), so there's less friction; move the bottle holder down a bit; in its current position getting the bottle out is probably awkward.

Enjoy the bike!

Thank you for your suggestions @non-fixie!! I will definitely take it for a service, because the wheel rotation does seem to stick a bit, thus I think you are right about the grease. Will try to see what I can do on the rest as well!

@wrk101 Thanks! You live and learn I guess. And thanks for the co-op idea, I will look for one here. Had a great experience with the folks in WNY but moved away so hoping there are more around here. Did not realize it was a widespread phenomenon.

Agree with @wrk101 ... with turkey levers, stem shifters, bolted on wheels...I would say a max of $50-75...and that would be in a good market...

In my market (Milwaukee WI), that would be about a hundred dollar bike, if sold in the spring or summer.
