They are 5/32" which is readily available but I found them so this will come with bearings.

Something special... well, there is something special about the races in the Stronglight Comp. headset... look into it, it's very neat. They're "V-shaped" with more ball-contact. Experience backs this up, these are some of the best headsets ever made..

Yes, one can also see how the A9's needle bearing design kinda evolved from it....

I was already wondering if they were similar or not, now I pretty much "have" to look it up. Especially when you guys refuse to post a link. EDIT: Nevermind, the pics showed up, and it's easy to see what you mean now. I was fairly impressed, when I repacked my A9 last year, having had no previous knowledge of it, much less hands on experience.

I'm really embarassed to admit that I have one on a mystery frame I'm prepping for a repaint and didn't notice until now. In my defense, "Competition" was covered with grime until I just now cleaned it all up. Now I'm playing with it and it spins great. But I'm trying to wrap my head around how it works, and if it can really do so without some point on the balls dragging instead of rolling.

The two V tracks give 4 contact points on each ball but the walls of the tracks are obviously different radii. Love to see an animation. I can visualize it working on straight tracks, but curved? Well, it's moot because it obviously works.

Edit: I get it. Like was said above, the bearing acts like a tapered roller bearing when on a circular v-grove, just with less contact.

Neat!
