MAFAC Competition Brakes

Adjustable reach MAFAC Competition bakes for sale. I had these on a bike and the rear was able to reach 61mm.

Pads are new (20-ish miles) straddle cables are new, pad holders are from Rene Herse and included the pre-toed washer.

Also included are straddle cable hangers and some xtra bronze bushings I had hanging around in my parts drawer. The bushing on these brakes are brass and in great shape.

Ask $100, net to me, shipping included and sent to the lower 48 states.

I'll take 'em. PM coming. Yeah, the price is up there but those bushings instead of the soft plastic reds? I've got two other bikes with Mafac fronts. Haven't had the real bushings in two dog's lives.

Edit: I was thinking Racer but heck, I'll take 'em anyway. Never had the Competitions. Just a few million miles on Racers and a smaller number on the cantis.

If those bushings in the bag are the ones I think they are, they are no good for Mafacs. They have a steel inner and a bearing-metal outer skin; the outer is a press fit in the brake arm and the inner rotates on the brake post - steel on steel, not what you want.

You can purchase the correct brass bushings and washers on Amazon for about $12

I couldn't find any either. Only 8mmx12mm, which I would have to turn down. And I might have messed up, but it seems that the only 8x10x10 at mcmaster is $20ea. I suppose cutting longer ones to length would be easier than reducing the OD.
Depending on what the steel is on the inside of the bearing, the uxcell bearings should work fine. In an application like that, you want dissimilar steels. I can't imagine it's likely to rust.

I got them (the uxcell) on spec to look at They are loose on the post - they wobble, and they may not even press fit into the arm without modifying one or the other.

I can't imagining them not rusting.

I've had to dremel-cut steel-bushinged canti arms off steel posts, they rusted so bad.

I saw 8x10x12 sleeves, sintered bronze-or-something; too long, but they'd work otherwise. Turning the outer side of an 8 x 12 would be ok; you'd likely smear the pores on the cut surface but that's not supposed to turn anyway.

Brass washers 14mm dia with an 8mm hole are yet unfound.

I have seen all sorts of things corroded together. It's amazing what happens to a 1975 schwinn varsity when you store it in the rain. My thought is with some Phill grease that is occasionally renewed, they would last a long time.

I found some 10mm od, 8mm id brass tube https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Length...s%2C106&sr=8-3
Maybe that's the way to go if you have a lathe or are very patient with a saw and file. They aren't lubed, but neither are the Rene Herse bushings. It is mildly entertaining what happens when you cut in to the oil-embedded brass, an amazing amount of oil comes out. I just had to do that for a project.
I can have brass washers cut, but at some point it gets tough to compete with Jan Heine. Thinnest brass I can use is 1mm, is that too thick?

Looking at the link of what I bought it looks like the same ones. Interesting enough the steel sleeve works really well in these racers. Anyway, the link is below.

I"m figuring I'll give 'em a try. I can't imagine much bad happening if they fit well and I stuff them with marine grease. If they don't fit, well I'll just have to dream up another (probably non-bike) use for them,
