Bikes: too many or not enough

FS: 1970s Gitane TDF?

SOLD
I went back and forth on how to move this on but in the end decided to build it up and sell it as a complete bike. It is not a super high end build but has some good components and everything is of good quality.

This was refurbished by a previous owner with new chrome, paint and decals. The chrome is in excellent shape. The paint is flaking in some areas, see photos. The decals are generic Gitane reproduction decals and the seat tube decal is peeling on the back. See these threads for some discussion about this frame/bike.
what to do with "fake" Gitane
French to English BB and Fork???
It has some weirdness:
  • Frame tubing is definitely metric Reynolds size and weight suggests it is 531 tubing
  • No braze-ons except for a nub to keep the shifter clamp from sliding down
  • 120mm rear spacing
  • 26.4 seat post
  • Seat stay tops match Gitane TDF and Super Corsa
All that is as expected. This is not:
  • Campy dropouts front and rear
  • Bottom bracket is English threaded
  • Fork steerer tube has 22mm inside diameter but outside diameter is 25.2 (too big for French) and English threaded
So It has an English BB and headset, a French seat post and stem and a French clamp front derailleur.

Seat tube is 21 1/2" (55cm) CTC as is the top tube. Total bike weight, without pedals, is ~23 lbs. Bike does not include pedals.

Components are:
  • Gitane metric Reynolds 531DB frame with Campagnolo dropouts
  • Specialized seat
  • Campagnolo Record seat post (26.4)
  • Pivo stem and handlebars (22mm stem)
  • Campagnolo Record brakes and levers (post CPSC)
  • Dia-Compe hoods
  • Campagnolo clamp on shift levers
  • Campagnolo Record front derailleur (French clamp)
  • Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur
  • Regina Oro freewheel and chain
  • Tange headset
  • Shimano bottom bracket (English)
  • Campagnolo Record crankset
  • Campagnolo Record hubs
  • Mavic G40 clincher rims with Michelin tires
It's on eBay but I would rather sell it here. $700 plus actual shipping (should be around $75 but changes all the time). I think that is considerably less than the parts value if you just want to part it out. Paypal F&F payment.

Oh and I replaced the front brake with a short reach one and got the pads on in the right direction. These pictures weren't updated to reflect that.

Bikes: More than I care to admit

With all that campy, it looks like it is a Super Corsa, or at least was built up as one. TdF’s had Simplex and other non-campy stuff. Same frames, different components.

It came to me as a Super Corsa but with all the frame weirdness and missing some telltale signs of a Super Corsa I decided a TdF with upgraded components was more likely. The bike came to me with a pretty much NOS set of period correct Campy components which I stole for another project. I replaced those components with the mix you see here so nothing is really original as far as the components and probably shouldn't be used to try and identify the bike. Honestly given the history all I can say is it is highly likely a well made French bike and probably a Gitane.
