Bikes: LESS than I did a year ago!

A Two Year Search...

...for a 1988 Schwinn Ontare...in the right size...and...finally...it arrived today...no clean up or perfect setting yet...just the basics and some pictures...to share with my friends...

Basically all original...except for pedals (hmm)...more to come as I set it up and take it for a test ride...or do I take my new Vent Noir out again first? Decisions, decisions, decisions...

It's pretty. I like it. But I gotta ask (lack of knowledge) why that specific bike?

Agreed with everyone else, that's quite attractive.

Where's the seatpost clamp? Or does that frame require a quill seatpost?

Black accents totally work on this one. I'd even go black seatpost. Never seen one before but it looks nice.

Bikes: Snazzy* Schwinns, Classy Cannondales & a Super Pro Aero Lotus (* Ed.)

Great find for a rare model! If I didn't already have a satisfying quiver of Cannondales, I'd try to add an '80s aluminum Schwinn. The Ontare would be at the top of the list!

The bike is a bit rare...particularly with the Ontare name...this was, as I understand it, Schwinn's first attempt to build an aluminum bike. They did so with help from Klein...again, my understanding...then they ran into "naming" issues...someone claimed to be using the Ontare name, so they renamed it Avion...then someone claimed that name so they went to the numbering system for their aluminum bikes (guess you cannot claim a number!). Some of our more experience Schwinn experts...please correct me if I got it wrong...

That...plus I like the look of the bike...so...I thought it would be an interesting bike for my collection.

Nice bike. When I was a kid I liked not my home sports teams but the ones with the coolest jerseys. One of my faves was the Houston Astros.
