Bikes: Gunnar Crosshairs, Surly Karate Monkey, Specialized Fuze, Bianchi Volpe, too many others and a lot of broken frame

Cannondale M700

Blast from the past. I just picked this up and the shop I deal with might have a Pepperoni fork.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

"Pepperoni fork?"

Sounds tasty, but is that good or bad for riding? Never heard of that one before.

That is what came on the bike. A rigid Cannondale aluminum fork

Yours looks to be in better shape than mine. It's a 1993 model. I'm in the process of revamping mine.

Bikes: large herd that needs thinning

I have a red M700 as well. Shortly after purchase around the 92 timeframe i was notified by Cannondale of a factory recall on the Pepperoni fork. At that tine, the factory did some repair on the fork and it was returned with what appeared to be the same pepperoni fork. Still working fine.

Bikes: You mean this week?

I bought one of those about four years ago and rehabbed it, and gave it to a friend who is still hammering on it!

Don't discount that Manitou 4! It's the best of the early production suspension forks. If the elastomers are dead, I think you can still find springs to fit. Light, stiff, reliable and CNC-awesome.

I guess... like a cell phone from 20 years ago. Awesome then, but outdated today. I don't mind the simple, short travel for XC, but different strokes for different folks.

Do you remember when that fork was used for seat stays as a full suspension bike?

Yep. Too bad the head tubes on those bikes tended to crack.
