Identifying my Record Du Monde!

Hey guys!

Firstly, so many bloody Peugeot models?!

Anyway, my bike, found this baby hidden away in my father's garage. Re-taped, a quick service, and she's riding like a dream!

Now I'm somewhat of a novice with bikes, so need some help.

I know it has a Reynolds 531 frame, and I think its around '77-'79 era.

Anyone have a guess at what model I have here??

Looks to me like it has "Competition" written on the top tube. I'm no Peugeot expert, but I believe that's a PKN 10 model.

It was the second best in their lineup under the Super Competition. Just the three main tubes are Reynolds 531. It's a very desirable bike.

Record du Monde means world record and it appears on many of their bikes.

Bikes: Cheltenham-Pedersen racer, Boulder F/S Paris-Roubaix, Varsity racer, '52 Christophe, '62 Continental, '92 Merckx, '75 Limongi, '76 Presto, '72 Gitane SC, '71 Schwinn SS, etc.

I agree it apears to be a PKN10, though the crankset appears "wrong", and also note that both of the PKN10 models I've owned used those Mafac full-hooded levers together with Weinmann calipers.

So I believe this one is perhaps a year or two older than my 1979 models, both of which had Weinmann sidepull calipers and clear-anodized Stronglight 49D model cranksets.

Well after a quick google, yes it is a PKN-10!
I have a few niggles still with it.. Namely that the brakes are non-existant, new brake pads I assume? And a slight problem of ghost shifting.
Other than that, runs well, I think I'll try and keep this one for a while.
Cheers for the info guys

Agreed. My son still has my 1980 PKN-10, which I would not have given to him if I had been taller or it had been 2 cm shorter.

OEM crankset is a Stronglight.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

For the ghost-shifting, try tightening the down the little screws that hold on the shift levers. They are intended to be adjustable to however much tension you need. And yes, get new brake pads, Kool-Stop and others make suitable replacement pads for your brakes, made from modern compounds which will improve your braking immensely.

Here's a picture of the Stronglight (49D?) crank on my brother-in-law's 1979 PKN10, your bike should probably have one of these if you want to take it back to original, but it's no big deal.
