Sourcing an axle set for Shimano FH-6402 hub

I recently picked up a decent old wheel for free to go on my 80's road bike.

It was free because it is missing the axle assembly As the title says, I have here a 6402 hub. My question is if this 6401 axle+cone assembly will work just fine with the hub Loose Screws Bicycle Small Parts Classic and Modern Cycling .

I know Shimano often changes small things between models and I don't want to make an order just to find out that the 6401 cones don't fit. They look close enough glancing through all the pictures I can find, but if anybody has a definite yes or no I would like to hear it.

Thanks for any help!

Fh-6401 might be the 126mm (7 speed) version, I've got a 130mm and it's a 6402. The cones are probably the same though and longer shimano axle should work.

Ok, I figured as much. You think the 137mm axle will be too short with the cones and locknuts spaced to 130mm?

They have live chat during business hours.

NOTE: Their axles don't have a slot for the tab inside the lock washers. All those tabs do is bugger up the axle threads.

Oh wow, I had no idea they have a chart to cover this. Unfortunately they don't have the drive side cone. Hub Parts

Look for a grey-haired wrench in a bike shop. Chances are 3-1 he/she has it.

if you watch ebay diligently, you can pickup an entire hub cheaper than you would buy a new axle.

i broke the axle to my front rsx hub. picked up the same hub on ebay, only it was really scratched up, wouldn't spin due to lack of grease and missing its quick release. i transfered the axle over, and i also got a bunch of extra bearings left over in great condition. total win.
