Based on the condition and original tires that were on it I’m sure I put more miles on it last summer during five workday lunchtime rides than it had put on by previous owners (I could be wrong).
So, did you cross the water?

Nope, bike doesn’t float and I didn’t feel like swimming. That section of the trail was flooded by the creek probably four different times last summer.

What model C-Dale is that 1989 60cm bike? Very nice. I have an 87 SR500 58cm, that MAY be a hair too small. If I were closer, I'd give it a go.

May i ask what groupset you have on this frame. Ive been meaning to put brifters on my sr600 cannondale but not sure where to start. Your bike is inspirational by the way

What size do you need? Mine is approximately a 60cm and I'm interested in passing it along to a new home.

Thank you. It's a Frankenbike, with mostly low-end Shimano components. 1988 Criterium Series frame. Crankset is a Tiagra triple with the Hollowtech 2 bottom bracket I found on Ebay for $40. Brakes are RX 100 Dual pivots off a Lemond Tourmalet, front and rear derailleurs also RX 100. Brifters are Microshift 8 speed (I think the all-black version looks the best). Wheels are Mavic Ksyrium, tires are 700 x 28 Panaracer Gravel King file tread. Bars are Cinelli Eubios, with Cinelli X-A stem.

The straight cro-moly fork I got at a bike co-op. Stripped the paint off, then polished it with wet sandpaper until it looked like chrome plating, then wiped it off and immediately sprayed it with professional 2 part clear paint:

I love the bike to pieces, the ride puts all my steel bikes to shame. There is no wasted energy with these frames, every ounce of pressure you put into the pedals goes straight to the rear wheel. And the steep racing angles on these frames totally rock as well.

As near as I can figure it is an SR300 maybe.

Black Lightning handlebar widths?

For the Cannondale Black Lightning, what is the Nitto Black/Gold handlebar width (ctr-to-ctr) for frame sizes 58cm and 60cm?
I didn't see that information in the catalogs and had no relevant results in a quick search.
I acquired a 56cm Black Lightning (1988) with 38cm bars, but I need something wider and might be able to move up a frame size, if necessary.

At a bit of 6'1" and my most comfortable bike is a 24" 88 Schwinn Tempo what size Cannondale should I be looking for?

Although not necessarily a deal killer I also prefer to run 700 x 28 for tires since I weigh 240ish.

Are you near Fresno? Here's a very cheap ($175) Cannondale advertised as a 25" that might fit you. Sizing on these can be hit and miss, since some people measure them center to center, others measure center to top, and still others, center to the top of the seat tube collar. Appears to be a 24" to me, but I may be off.

Looks like an early one, maybe an '85 or '86:

Not near Fresno, but that does look like a good deal.

I only use inches because that is how Schwinn listed them. IIRC Schwinn measured from BB to the top of the seat tube. Of course just about everyone else at the time used metric.

Top tube is probably more important for me neck issues are a literal pain in the neck if I'm to stretched out.

Well, I am 5’11” and ride a 23 inch tempo (C to C). I bought a 22.5 inch Cannondale and it seems to fit well. My Cannondale has a good amount of seat post showing, so I’m guessing you will need the next size up.

I think sizing has as much or more to do with your leg length rather than height.

A 23 inch Tempo CTC is probably a 24 how Schwinn measured it. I really don't need another bike I just like the looks of the Cannondale.

A 23 inch Tempo by Schwinn sizing is 57cm CTC, which is the best way to compare frame-to-frame across brands, thereby eliminating confusion. I also ride a 23 inch Tempo, and an SR series Cannondale 58 (by their serial number) is the perfect size for me. Same with a Cannondale ST 23", again by their serial number. Note that SR frames always were measured in cm and ST frames always in inches.

The subject bike is an early SR series; 85 is the earliest I've ever seen. If an 85, the serial will be on the bottom bracket and will begin with 'CC'. Unfortunately, the serial number will contain no sizing information. That looks like a 60cm frame by Cannondale sizing, so slightly less than that CTC. If it's an 86, the serial number will begin with the size of the frame in cm; my guess is it would be 60.

Liking the way a bike looks is not a bad reason! Also, I will add that I have about 10 bikes. NONE of them feel the same as the Cannondale. I have enjoyed the difference in the oversized aluminum frame. I wouldn't say it's better or worse, just that it is noticeably different. When I am choosing a bike for a ride, they all have different qualities, components and comfort levels that make each better or worse for a given task.

My Cannondale ST has a long wheel base and steel fork. I would like to try one of the more radical shorter wheel base, cantilevered dropout frame Cannondale frames some day too.

Not sure if this counts as classic or vintage, and it's not nearly as pretty as the other bikes in this thread but here's my 91 SM700. You can tell it has been well loved!

I always liked the splatter paint job.

mkeller234 you have a couple of nice looking bikes there.

My Tempo is more of a mutt and needs a repaint, it also had a bunch of mixed parts on it when I bought it.

I changed it out for RSX 7 speed, as funds allow I will probably get it powdercoated.

More mods. Probably my 10th or 12th version of this bike, I long ago wore out or replaced every single component on the original Shimano 600 gruppo.

Got a low-angled 120 mm stem, as per discussions in another thread, I think it was carbonfiberboy who recommended one of these, I'm loving mine. I breathe better stretched out, and my back has never felt better on a bike. Stem is from the co-op and has a faint "Bianchi" decal, but I can't imagine which model it could be a take-off from.

Also got a new Altus RD with ridiculously huge pulleys, only $25. Can take a 34t cog. I figured anything that ugly must shift well, shifts great so far. Flite saddle too, always wanted one of these.

Got some 165 mm cranks, really liking those as well, it's great to be able to turn the pedals in a more compact motion.

Had this bike since it was brand new, it's getting pretty beat up, but I sort of think of it as my Stevie Ray Vaughn guitar, it's got lots of character (AKA "scratches and chips").
