Will I be exiled from C&V paradise?
So I picked up an over-used and over-priced Olmo San Remo (circa mid-to-late 80s I think?) on The Bay and am planning my build. At the same time, I finally assembled a complete Suntour Superbe group thanks to a couple of upstanding forum members. As you're no doubt already figuring out, I really want to put the Superbe group on the Olmo and build it up as a vintage speedster.
I know putting a vintage Japanese group on a vintage Italian bike is questionable form, but just how questionable? Will I be shunned from the wool jersey Rat Pack and relegated to the rear of the Huffy pace line? Am interested in the opinions of you all. (FWIW, I have a Colnago with Campy NR and am really not excited about doing another Campy build.)
I know you all like pics so here's the seller's Olmo pic:

You already earned your cred.
It actually sounds like a very cool idea to me.

If St. Tullio doesn't punish you we certainly won't.

Suntour superbe is one of my favorite groups. I used it on my team miyata even though dura ace was more appropriate. I'd use it on this build.

I took a lot of c.... for years on the internet about DA on this De Rosa of mine.
I loved it.
The bike and the flak that is.
Its first owner was a state crit champ and he did just fine with it.
It performed flawlessly for me as well, perhaps better than 3-4 of my other De Rosas with Campy.

I had an olmo san remo with a DA group on it. Sold it because it was too small for me. Worked pretty well for ultraglide era stuff.
But I admit, I always was looking for a Team Miyata frame with a full campy group to swap parts, but the odds of that happening...

Oh... the horrors...
Hmmm... Well, I suppose my Colnago is now mixed with parts over generations of time.
I've now found Suntour "Top Normal" front derailleurs that I've decided to play around a bit with. The idea is that you push both levers forward to shift to the lower gears and pull them both back to shift to the higher gears.

My Basso Gap came with 600 EX. Looks good, IMHO.

I've never understood this insistence that top-tier Italian frames must come with campy. dura-ace joined the pro peleton with flandria(Belgian, of course) in 1973......grewal won the '84 Olympics on a Japanese-equipped pinarello......so this is nothing new.
that olmo looks great in yellow!

My Tommasini has a mixed Dura-Ace / Ultegra / Campagnolo Chorus/Record groupset, with Nitto bars. I have Superbe Pro mechs on my '72 PX-10, and the brakes are made by DiaCompe. The eroica Colnago has Campagnolo mechs, hubs, cranks and headset, but it also uses an aftermarket cartridge BB and Suntour Superbe Pro vintage pedals (vs heavier/more expensive Campagnolo Nuovo Record). The Bridgestone RADAC has Campagnolo tubular rims. Tires are largely Continental Sprinter Gatorskin, which don't puncture often on Pennsylvania chipseal (unlike Vittoria's offerings).
Gotta use what works.

You have to ride it. Do what makes you happy. I generally keep everything in the Campagnolo family for ease of maintenance/tools & swapping parts. We also have a period Dura Ace bike. Picked that one up for a good price!
