Fastback Seat Stays

I think this is the coolest thing ever!

I want to buy a frameset with the seat tube clamp on the seat stays. Any suggestions?

Is there a point to these type of seat stays?

Do they make a bike a better sprinter? Climber? More comfort?

He spent several years at Serotta before he went to Waterford where he spent several more years before hanging out his shingle. The man is talented.

Lugwork, in general, but the seat cluster in particular, is one of the best ways for framebuilders to distinguish their work. As you can see from all the images posted to this thread, there is quite a bit of variety in fastback seatstay treatment.

Here are a number of shots of fastback seat clusters on some of my bikes. Here's my RRB's cluster:

A Trek 770 I used to own (Trek did a lot with these "pluggable" seat lugs to simplify construction - I think @b dub has it now):

A Serotta Coeur d'Acier which passed through my hands a couple years ago:

I've seen this treatment on some of Chris Bishop's frames

The 80s Cinelli I recently posted in "Are You Looking...?" has fastback stays too.

The seat lug is one of my favorite features on this unidentified frame that I have had for a few years, now. I think it is a Roberts, but no solid evidence - yet...
