Disappearing Threads..?

A few recent started threads of mine have disappeared. Is anyone else experiencing this situation?

Only when I over-tighten them with a big wrench.

daf1009 10-28-15 05:56 AM

Not exactly what I thought this thread was about!!!! I thought maybe we had threads disappearing from a BB Shell or something!!!

pastorbobnlnh 10-28-15 06:13 AM

Recently threads have disappeared from the zipper on my pulpit robe, making it difficult on Sunday mornings to secure my pudgy self behind the black facade. :p

Randy, you already packed them for your trip to Jamaica. ;) They will turn up after you arrive in the land of no snow, nor ice nor howling Arctic wind! :thumb:

Do you remember which forum you posted them in? I sometimes think I am in C&V and the thread was over in Mechanics, Commuting, 50+, etc.

The Golden Boy 10-28-15 06:56 AM

Are they disappearing, or are you using the forum search to find them?

Forum Search is bad.

jimmuller 10-28-15 06:58 AM

I received a batch of spokes in the mail yesterday. On examining them I discovered that the threads run to the end of each spoke and then just disappear completely. I can see where the inner ends of the threads are but I have no idea where the outer ends may be. Probably the same place as the socks.

If you are looking for your threads using search, it is malfunctioning. Again.

The mods have notified IB and they are working on it. Again.

rhm 10-28-15 07:26 AM

I often search for threads and fail to find them. The reason is never obvious. I'm pretty sure your threads will reappear when you're not looking.

dailycommute 10-28-15 07:32 AM

So when you go to path

my profile-->find latest started threads (upper left corner)

The thread are missing? I would check there.

tmh657 10-28-15 08:04 AM

I would blame the cloud. It absorbs data and hides it. :twitchy: As mentioned they will probably reappear.

Spaghetti Legs 10-28-15 08:26 AM

Yes, that has happened to the bottom bracket threads on my old C40. Let me know where you find yours and I'll look there too.

Chombi 10-28-15 08:35 AM

Nahhhh,..... maybe the wifey finally took those disco shirts and bell bottom pants to Goodwill when you were out riding??...

Hummer 10-28-15 08:55 AM

Randy,

this was only happening to some Canadian members of BF. The new Prime Minister has pledged to stop the muzzling.

I have seen that other peolpe's posts, not mine, have been removed from threads. I don't know who, or how, or why they are deleted, but they are gone and there is no indication that the posts ever existed. All the replies in the thread get renumbered.

I have tried that several times, but to no positive avail. I believe the last Started Thread was on Oct 7, 2015. Since then, nada.

Good to know that the problem is being addressed. Thanks.

Indeed. I've found that Google provides a better forum search than this buggy, ad-soaked forum does.
Instead of using the forum search function, Google "bikeforums.net credit-card touring" or "bikeforums.net" and the keyword you're looking for.

And if you want to make it possible to look up all your posts, just include a scarcely-used, and even misspelled word like "cumquat" in every post, so you can look up all your posts by Googling "bikeforums.net cumquat".
Looking up posts by user doesn't work for squat either, you'll find. But Google is still running strong. :)

Thanks for the tip.
I thought it was 'operator trouble', when I couldn't find anything. Now it makes sense...

Man, if you guys could just see my upcoming Halloween costume. Thrift store finds (from both sides of the proverbial aisle) that have been lovingly re-purposed by my talented wife. The look will be...how shall I say...glamboyant!

And, don't say pics or it didn't happen...

Terrance and Phillip,.........now Randy too??!!

dksix 10-28-15 10:28 AM

I had post I've made not show up from "my profile", "latest post" but I could go to the actual sub forum and open the thread and it be there.

Ha! I like this idea, and your example.

Ad-soaked? I can think of two easy/cheap ways to fix that.

tarwheel 10-28-15 12:11 PM

Try this. Click on your name on one of your posts, such as this thread. A drop down box will appear. Click on "View Forum Posts." If the missing threads don't show up there, then they must have been eaten by the dryer.

I heard bobcats actually make the best workers for such. I think it has something to do with having no tails to get caught in cooling fans, but you have to watch it with their tempers??....

For me it is the 'disappeared' (past tense) pictures from hosts that are no longer being maintained! Nothing worse than clicking on what promises to be an intriguing thread, only to find it is intriguing - only to scroll down to see that "no image available" picture... sucks.

Won't fix the bugginess. No thanks.

Thumpic 10-28-15 08:53 PM

I have seen replies that quote a previous reply from someone else. But when I look for the original reply that was quoted; it's not there sometimes. Very odd!

Not so odd. I think you can delete your own posts. AFAIK there is no restriction on that though I've never done it.
