Personally, I'd donate the bike to a co-op [or the like]
Could be a good electrolysis bath experiment.
When you said "worth it", I'm assuming some monetary outcome expected. Now if "worth it" means to fix up and give to a niece, etc., then the answer might be different.

It's $10 at a garage sale, but I would only offer $5.00.
Not looking to make anything off of it, but would give it to my daughter. Just wondering approximately how much it would cost to redo everything on it. Plus it would be a learning experience for me in bicycle mechanics.

I agree with you all.
I thought about it on my ride this morning and had decided it's not worth it. I guess I am learning to stop and think before those spur of the moment purchases. Thanks for the confirmation and Happy Friday!

The SR. stem would be worth hanging on to. If alloy the bars as well. The downtube clip for the brakes come in handy.
Some parts might make it worth if cost is low and part bin need is high.

I personally would do it, only because I did the same exact thing 3 times the past few weeks, 3 beaters for 10 bucks each, only because of the stems, RD and shifter levers they had.
You would be surprised how much rust comes off over the chrome with 0000 steel or brass wool. I know its putting lipstick on a pig in many cases on the beaters it can be fun if you have the space and time.
