Hey, what's better than opening a box of crap and finding exactly what you wanted? I'd wager the giver would feel better than the received about the whole thing, and isn't this what the BOC should be about? |
Folks, I'm traveling from Aug 18 through Aug 21. I don't think the BOC will arrive at my home before then, but if it seems likely, please bump my name down the list. wschruba, this means if it is in your hands before Aug 19, don't send it to me. Instead, send it instead to zammykoo who can then send it to me. If you wschruba) have it after Aug 19, do send it to me.

I'm looking at the list of names in post #1 and judging from the current trend of handoffs, it'll be at least a month before you get the BOC. |

No, I mean August. As gugie says, extremely doubtful, but I want to be ready for the unlikely.
We're going to visit friends in Independence, MO to experience the solar eclipse! |

wschruba, it's surprising how little I get back to NJ since moving back to NYC in 2013. We lived in Maplewood. We spend weekends in Ulster County, NY, and we usually take Rt 17 through a corner of NJ, but that's about it.

It was on my Peloton when I brought it home. Had decayed plastic rings holding the bearings, and I thought that was bizarre as I'd never seen plastic headset components before. I'm sure it works fine without them. ;)

Is that the needlepoint BB headset? If so my peloton stilll has it's and the plastic rings are still in great shape.. amazingly since the bike was beaten into the ground before me.

Haze grey and under way to FBOATSB. Sorry for a couple days of delay, but my work hours totally eclipse the post office hours
|

I know I'm fairly low on the org chart - I might not even have a border around my name. And so I know crap rolls downhill. But I wouldn't want to open the BoC and find a pile of stuff that I knew would be there with someone else's name on it. Someone just stick a stamp on Tom's seat post and drop it in the mailbox, that's what the ISO thread is for right? :D
maybe if it was just one item or only one step ahead? |
BOC received today and this is what it looked like:https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ve...w=w859-h971-no
The box was split and leaking Crap:eek: And judging by previous pics of the bloated, formerly rectangular container I already had a new one at the ready. This was my haul: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6W...w=w704-h971-no I was quite shocked to find an old Brooks saddle crammed in there. It is quite crispy. I think with some lacing and reconditioning it might be usable for a while, if not , a great candidate for recovering. Thinking of it as a nice cantle with some old leather on it.Whoever put it in there, thanks so much! Then an old Schwinn freewheel is right up my alley. Five speed is more than enough. If the Campy BB does not fit where I have plans for it I will put back in the next time around. Miss-matched calipers for a 27" to 700c conversion. And cotton bar tape with shellac is how I roll. Now for reload, I had no hopes of getting all that stuff crammed back in a fresh box with the additional crap I had. First I did my due diligence and actually took some borked, broken, boged, stripped and downright dangerous crap out and set it aside and commenced to repack the box with the care and dexterity of a journeyman grocery bagger. I was able to get it all in there and get the box shut! Don't worry, the Takara family is once again heading across country. Made it to the Post office before closing. Thanks all and please sign me up for another Craptastic adventure! |

As for the old Brooks, we all know a guy... Yer added back in with an MR2 rating, well played! |
Perhaps I did overstuff it. The B-15 and the Model J both came off a Super Sport I had a few years ago. The saddle was too crispy for me and the freewheel didn't go on the 120 o.l.d. wheel that I had available. You're welcome!

Darth Lefty -- I think we just became a very exclusive BOC club. I too placed an overly trashed Brooks in the box once. It was claimed at the next stop, though I don't know if it was brought back to life after...

1.5 years after I last received it, the box is on its way :)
Already have an addy for @jeirvine, too. Should be able to do a same-day turnaround so long as it arrives before 1430. Not a lot going in, but it's quality. Prolly not taking much out (I'd have snagged those two rolls of cotton tape in a heartbeat!), either, so hopefully that thing's not filled to the brim! DD |
Happy Eclipse Day! Got a ride in the morning, got the Box in the afternoon.
I took pics, but will have to wait until later to post - I have a cat who is high as a kite right now as a result of sniffing 'round the box :) DD |
Sacha's finally snoozing, so here are the pics.
What's in here? https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4393/3...944492ac_b.jpg Something smells good!! https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4432/3...29b18c18_b.jpg That's for me, right? https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4400/3...cd7a7039_b.jpg Man, this is some good **** :) https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4347/3...633be4e4_b.jpg My take: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4334/3...27b78216_b.jpg Nice Leatherman Core, pair of Campy pedals I will work some magic on and a couple bits of paper from the red folder. I had to snag that Takara catalog :) Thanks to whomever put the catnip in there - Sacha really enjoyed it before burning out! DD |
New rule!
Ok, not a rule, but a recommendation... Gotta cat, and you're stuck in line waiting for crap to land on your doorstep? Let me know, I'll add your cats name to the ever expanding list of crap I keep track of in the OP. |
Heh. My cat (whom I believe you met) is Prof Sneakyboots.
Please add me back to the queue, Crapmaster. |
