Hard to find vintage images now, and I'm too lazy to REALLY try, but for a time in the 70s the east coast trendsetters on the ski hill were all wearing Cannondale clothing. Serious backpackers flocked to the Winans Camel backpacks, and any serious bike tourist had a bike covered with C'dale panniers, handlebar bags, seat bags, etc. and in those were high Zoot Cannondale tents and sleeping bags.

It wasn't until '83 that they actually ever bothered making a bike. Before that they were just the high end touring products company that kind of carved out the Country Bike/bikepacking niche we all recognize today. Their clothing and cycling clothing and gear were the Patagonia/North Face of their era only on a much much smaller scale.

Tandem Tom's leather mudflap thread gave me another 1970's flashback - leather race numbers!

Bicycling the Midwest, great book, very retro.

There are a number of other manuals as well, after all, Glenn and Sloans bike books are among the many Bibles out there for me.

Sloane's is the other one.
+1!! This was my repair bible! There are sections on repacking freewheels and three speed hubs. The photos seemed as though they were partally lfted from Schwinn training materials.
