Picking up a Miyata with bent forks, where is a good parts place? Used is fine... I'll have to identify it better I know...

Make sure the frame itself isn't damaged. In particular look on the top tube and down tube near the head tube.

I usually buy used parts here or on ebay.

Bike co-ops might be able to help if there are any in your area.

There's a classifieds forum but you need to be a paid member to start a thread in it.
Replacement new steel forks are not outrageously expensive ($50+)

Ok come to find its 1981 Miyata TwoTen Suntour hardware...its pretty nice for the cost. But the forks are bent back even, to the point the wheel interferes with the frame. The fork has number 1156 stamped on it (hoping its a part number?)
No the seat is not adjusted properly!

I see the frame is fine. I am having trouble finding the fork. Can I get one through your coop? You are right its Suntour stuff, dealing with 2 bike at once the Peugeot has Simplex... I may try to straighten these...

Where in Michigan are you? There are Co-ops all over the state

Not in my area. We have several bike shops in our towns up here but no co-ops. I'm in Boyne City.

Yeah, that's a good place to ski and a bad place for coops.

Back in the day I straightened some bent forks by bashing my bike "backwards" in to the the same curb that bent it in the first place. Probably wasn't perfect, but was good enough. Frame nor rim never budged from the hit or the fix, go figure.

I'm near ann arbor, where you would figure there would be a few! I'll do some searches...
The fork piece did come apart really easy, so I will try to straight it..nothing to lose!

Measure the steerer tube length and most any 1" fork should work. It does not need to be a Miyata.

well, it needs to be a 1" fork with cantilever braze-ons if you want to use the same brakes. Check the wheel size too. Can't remember if they're 700c or 27".

I think you are looking at top506's fork, which still amazes me that he got that straight. Dguzzi's 210 originally came with 27" wheels and center pulls.

Lots of inexpensive chromed forks for 27" wheels to choose from, like this one.

It is 27" and center pull brakes. What is cantilevered? I'll have to be sure I take the proper measurements, it is 1" diameter but ~6" long (150mm)

Campus bike on Maynard may sell you a used fork, but they aren't cheap. Ypsi Cycle too. The only coop with inventory is The Hub of Detroit on Cass, but their inventory is spotty.

This fork should fit. I will be in A2 on Monday afternoon. You can have this Centurion for $35. The saddle, saddle bag, pump, are gone and the cables/bar tape have been removed, but otherwise it is all there. I bought it as part of a 2 bike deal.

^Pretty good deal, plus you get the shortie fenders. The head tube looks close to yours.

Canti brakes attach to both sides of the fork. Center pulls attach with a single hole at the fork crown.

Looks like that's a better bike than the Miyata, oddjob2. Maybe put that to use instead. What part of Ann Arbor would you be in Monday?

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks to me as though the Miyata top tube is bent downward a little bit near the head tube. I'd suggest you check this with a straightedge before going further. Also, look underneath the downtube an inch or so from where it connects to the headtube. If there is rippled or cracked paint or a bump there then the frame is definitely bent.

The Centurion above does indeed appear to be perhaps a better bike than the Miyata.

Its the photo, just the forks are bad. Its possible the wheel has a hitch in its giddy-up though. Looks like the owner used a graphite or moly chain lube, dark stains all over...
