Indeed they are! Pretty wild, huh? This is/was on display at A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito, CA.

Well, that's a first! I never would've thought about that for a bike finish. Cool

Oh, and yes - I did drill those alloy cogs on the Everest freewheel. I did that while it was apart for a maintenance issue caused by a "mechanic" in small shop I used to frequent. I think there's a thread about that debacle!

Ha, maybe some day. The tires most certainly are. The wheels came with that bike - they're 28h with light rims, so I won't use them much for now. That project is getting good and close. Need some cable inners, spokes, and a chain. Think I might have found a solution for the chain.

I think it looks neat now, but I'm not sure I'd want it on one of my own bikes long-term. I sweat too much, and I can only imagine it retaining moisture against the tubes, not to mention getting crusty with dried sweat and road grime. But I would like to see how those leather-covered tubes develop their patina over time.

And nice work on those cogs. I do recall reading about the bungling mechanic incident.

Not super close-up or even especially creative, but here are some detail shots of a special bike I was lucky enough to recently have pass through my hands:
