Gugie, I think your remarks to mtnbke are out of line and definitely not representative of the long standing, civil tone of this great forum. I like reading mtnbke's posts, even if I tend to skim through them after the first 8 or 9 paragraphs. I think he adds value to the forum with his iconoclastic views. If you disagree with him, say you disagree and state your C&V related opposing viewpoint. If you have a personal issue with him, this forum is not the place to take it up, in my opinion. He's not parroting the right groupthink and he annoys a lot of members. I don't think that authorizes you to speak for the whole group or tell him to hit the bricks.

It's 2020. I have finally gotten smart and stopped hanging out on the C&V bike forum so much.

Takes a real man to appologize when out of line. I enjoy the fun and lighthearted characteristics of the C&V forum, as well as the technical information that members like Gugie often provide. But this forum is not the place for bashing other fellow enthusiasts.

In 2020 most likely my past life, fate, and poor lifestyle choices will have caught up with me and after an all-night bender my family, comrades, and friends will cut the lock to the Cape Cod National Seashore Marconi Site, climb up to the observation platform, and dump my ashes over a 'No Littering' sign as the sun rises, with 'One Last Drink' playing in the background.

His "knowledge" is nothing more than re-constituted group think.. stiffer frames are always better, modern materials are better, simply because they are newer, leather saddles cause erectile dysfunction and on & on. This is an entertaining thread, mtnbke is a funny dude. Anyone that can shake up these boring forums is someone I would like to know. Truth is you have gotta be in some kind of group think to have thousands of comments and not have your head explode at around 200 posts. In 2020 I will be way past done restoring all the vintage bikes I ever wanted and more so on to the next interest or better focus on what I should be restoring and knock off the reasons to procrastinate on the hard stuff. If I get to 200 posts without being banned that might be a miracle in itself. I hope it says more on my tomb stone than here lies so n so, he commented.

Well, I do like this thread especially because I can get through it quickly when I don't have to read so much of the stuff.

My ideal 2020, which will most certainly be different from the real one, will have fewer leaf blowers, fewer drivers but more of them knowing how to drive around a bicycle, fewer jack hammers, a reasonable selection of gumwall tires, reduced CO2 in the atmosphere, more bike lanes, and more banjos. With a bit of luck and St. Tullio's help I'll still be riding as I turn 72.

I agree that posts like that are a lot of hot air and annoying, but this post is an exception. As I said, I found it funny, even the part that poked fun at me.
