I recall the article you're talking about, from like 2-4 months ago though, I feel like (I have no concept of time, though).

This is usually where I go to Google versus the forum search feature. More granular results. You may need to re-submit this search by tapping the magnifying glass once the link loads. https://www.google.com/webhp?q=site:...imano+frame%22

Not saying you'll find it there, but that was the best I could get. I swear the frame in the thread I think you're talking about had Shimano brand sticker on the DT and ST, it was white or chrome (can't recall)?

Yeah, that timeline seems right. It was chrome I believe. To be honest I have at best a passing interest in this thread so going past one search is stretching it, though I also generally go to google when I need to find a particular thread.

Wow, a very nice frame indeed! I do not believe the decals are original. Why would it sport aero decals without an aero look to any other part of the bike. Besides those decals have been around all over for 30 years.
nice find!!

Totally understand. I'm a forensics guy, can't help myself sometimes even if I'm not interested. I think this is the thread we're both stumping on: http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...age-frame.html

Keywords were "shimano stickers" frame :D

That blew off a thick layer of dust off of some very dusty memories. I think Shimano handed out a thousands of those "Shimano Aero" sticker sets to promote the AX groups. The frame is nice, but did not come with those stickers originally.

NOW it's looking like quality. More pics please.

I just measured the fork and it takes a 26.4 crown race, (JIS would be 27) that said I know that it can't be a Japanese built frame. Now I can take off those ugly stickers!

I think your idea to build it up with spare parts is a good one. Build it and ride it. :)

I have never seen this on a frame before, check out the detail pics of the brace behind the bottom bracket, the rear brake bridge and the water bottle bosses. The chrome actually looks better without the flash.

This is why I thought it might be special

Thats a good looking bike, curious that it isn't Japanese. Those stickers are ruining it.

Those AERO decals were used with tthe early 1980s Shimano Dura Ace AX and 600 AX groupsets. The frames they were on were teardrop shaped tubes not round.

It seems to me that someone just liked the decals and put them on that frame.

Cheers

Updated pic http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=505268 I used a "take off" Shimano 600 6 speed SIS groupset, too bad the short reach calipers are about 3 mil too short. Now I need to find a set of these in 47-57mm, or as a last resort go with Tektro, or Shimano R650. Has anybody here ever tried offset pad holders? BDop OFFSET HOLDERS

Wow I wish I would have known about those holders a long time ago. BDop is a regular poster in the Road forum.
