Cleaning up C&V stickied threads

The stickied threads take up quite a bit of space, especially on smaller screens. Some of them have been there for what seems like decades yet have limited or no activity. Perhaps it is time to let some of them fall into the pile of regular threads and let the masses move them.

What do you all think?

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

The "New Classic Rigs and Rides Thread" is, at the very least, redundant, since that's what the whole C&V subforum is about anyway. I suppose the frame-swapping thread really should live or die by its own currency (honestly, who's idea was that to make it a sticky?), just as the "Pay it Forward" thread does, just as the box o' crap thread does. The "Where in the World" thread isn't very useful and would be unneeded if people would just post their locations in their profiles.

Yeah, there's significant real estate being taken up by sub-par threads here. Those are the ones I would un-sticky. The ISO/Trade thread would be fine un-stickied too, as it would always be on page one regardless.

We have removed the sticky from the "The Current Classic and Vintage Sticky Threads Reference Index and Table of Contents" thread. The other threads have all had posts in the last 90 days, all but one in the last 4 days. We'll continue to monitor their usage and purge as necessary.

You're kidding, right?

That is actually the one useful sticky there is. It's where all the former stickys go. It is an excellent reference.

Where is the world? Kill it.
Facilitators. Kill it.

Matter of fact, I'd kill everything except the trade sticky, show off your new bike sticky and former stickys.

I'd add one too. A vintage rides sticky.

Why not just make a sticky of stickies? They'll still be easy to find but take up less headroom.

Bikes: I hate bikes!

I say ditch all of the sticky threads. People can subscribe to the thread that they want to follow.

Bikes: ? Proteous, '65 Frejus TDF, '73 Bottecchia Giro d'Italia, '83 Colnago Superissimo, '84 Trek 610, '84 Trek 760, '88 Pinarello Veneto, '88 De Rosa Pro, '89 Pinarello Montello, 'Litespeed Catalyst'94 Burley Duet, 97 Specialized RockHopper, 2010 Langster

I don't have too much of an opinion but like the 90 usage criteria.

You may flame me but I think it would be cool to have a sticky for each frame marque like Pinarello, Cinelli, De Rosa, etc. A number of "Show me your xxxx" exist already but duplicates have been created. I know this is a result of non searches but why search if it was a sticky?

I skip over the stickies. I think they are a misfeature.

Bikes: Yes, please.

Actual usage of a sticky seems a good indicator to me. Posting in it not so much.

This I like. Keep the stickies, but only show the one thread with the index. Newbies should be encouraged to check the stickies first. If we did this, we could actually add stickies such as a polishing thread, a rust thread, whatever. I stopped replying to rust threads after about 200 times.....

Keep the ideas coming. I'll continue to forward them to the moderator staff for consideration.

Maybe it is psychological but I almost never look at the stickies because they are a different colour and not what I consider the meat of the forum. Some of the threads certainly have merit and are useful. A lot of time noobies bump up old posts and they live again for a few days, weeks or months in the first few pages then when people have had their say they drift back...then someone finds it again and bumps it up.

I like the idea of one sticky of stickies. Have all the information there and as a resource but don't clutter up the front page where the majority of people scroll right past the coloured stickies to the first regular post halfway down the page.

Can mods see page views? That would be a good indicator.

I have a fairly large monitor, and the stickies take up the whole browser window. We usually sticky threads because of demand. Personally, my eyes skip right over them unless I see that there is a new post from the top level of the forum
