Show us your UGLY

That could certainly be the "before" shot for my salty roads bike. A complete clean/overhaul does not improve its appearance - still UGLY - does not improve it's value $0.25. But its total lack of refinement does work well for my aerobic runs on messy winter roads and its 38 lbs works well for keeping me in some sort of shape given less frequent and shorter trips. At least I'm riding while my nice bikes stay salt free and dry.
Ya know? The stem shifters work surprisingly well moved to the down tube.

The thing that really shocked me with this frame was just how unrefined the rear dropouts were. They look like something I would have made in shop class in high school. I initially harbored dreams of "restoring" mine into a sub-beater, but I wasn't able to get the stem out of the head tube (even after cutting it multiple times with a hack saw) and the rear wheel (which if I remember correctly was 26x1-3/8") was beyond saving.

I see three things:
1. Decal is torn
2. Rust on the Allen head
3. Levers are different lengths, assuming they are both in the forward/down position.
OK now that I look at it, the left lever is "Up" and not in the same plane as the right one.

I may have overstated rare
, try not to use that, but the track seems hard to come by and go for decent prices. I posted this when I bought as I could not resist the USSR decal on he seat tube and the head lugs. This was a lower end of supposedly the better factory that produced different bike types and the Olympic track bikes. I can't imagine the low end at the low end factory. And now for the pig and the lipstick.

Anyone that knows parts will have an idea of how much I like this one though. Still not finished and waiting on a couple things.

Did you pull that out of my recycling bin?

Apparently the previous owner of my Raleigh had a bit of a fall and dented/scuffed the top tube. Doesn't bother me though because I didn't do it. I'm only bothered by imperfections when I cause them for some reason.
