Puget Sound/ W WA = Ride & Wrench & Skills Day Mar 20 or 21

Throwing out an idea for Sat March 19th (or could be Sun March20) to be a day of C&V-ing nerding.
Hosted location is between Issaquah and Renton Highlands (not far off Hwy900 and near May Valley Road).
Small Garage for wrenching. Covered front patio for bikes
The idea is a morning Ride, afternoon of Wrenching and Skills. Afternoon ride optional.

Private home with some privacy. Socializing permitted. Chips & salsa provided. Gas grill available.

Bring a tool, or your touch-up/highlighting paints, or your fenders to install, or bar tape, or lug lining pen.
Someone will give you their opinion on mounting that tubular tire, shining aluminum parts, etc.
Bring your bike(s) and your skills and your questions.

No oxalic acid.

Bail-out plan for 'showery day' is to convert Ride/Wrench/Skills into Hike/Wrench/Skills. Cougar Mt. hiking trails start 2 blocks from the house. Solid rain day cancels.

Anybody interested?

edit: Anyone who climbs from the foot of the road to the house (hike or bike), will be given the "Climb the Coalfield" granite memento award.

I of course will be there with tools, bike and backpack - I'll probably bring my new workstand, too

Revived by popular demand and the fact that accuweather.com forecasts a dry day on Sat Mar 19th.

Here's the ride opportunity.
Saturday March 19th @ 9:00AM for a 9:30 push off. (Is 30min 'vintage gawk' enough?)
Start in Issaquah, less than 1/2 mile north of I-90 (empty office park area)
Ride options: #1 for roadies = East Lake Sammamish Road to Marymoor Park.
#2 . A gravel option to Marymoor Park = the trail that follows the road
#3 . For those wishing a short ride to breakfast = ramble around Issaquah
Reassemble at Start area when ride(s) are complete.

Wrench opportunity + bring your own lunch. Gas grill available. Chips&salsa provided.
After the ride, drive about 5 miles to my house.
Chat, talk shop, work on a bike or two.

Maybe you've wanted to try a set of tubulars, maybe you want to try the fatter 25&27 road tires, maybe see if 30s or nobby 32s will fit under the brake bridge. Come to the wrench session and learn/teach us something. 58 - 60cm bikes available for short test rides.

Shall I bring the DeRosa? Not that it really needs any wrenching, per se.

Glad you are planning on coming. Since you are traveling so far = What beer do ya like?

edit: Or wine. I heard 2012 was a good year in California, at least the Pinots should be OK to open. Rodney Strong, Russian River Valley compared to a 2013 Oregon Pinot from Eugene.

What beer do I like? Hmmmm... that could be too long for a single post here, so I'll stay away from that for now. Still not sure I can make it, my weekend crew is still having conflicts with their other jobs and I sometimes have to fill in at the last minute for them. I'll PM you one way or the other.

Bring your leather sewing kit, hole punch, small buckles or velcro and a design for a small item. Leather samples available for FREE if the project is worthy.

There has been a request via PM - 1. Can anyone give a wheel building demo?

1 week before ride date.
Here are the specifics of the Start Location for Saturday March 19th @ about 9AM for a departure time somewhere around 9;30.
From I-90 take Exit #17, go north on E Lake Samammish Rd for 1.3 miles. Past FatBurger, Krispy Kreme, McDonalds. Turn left on SE 51 St (at the traffic light) into the vacant business park. Then an immediate right into the first 'Siemens' driveway.

The ride is 10 miles to Marymore Park. Meet at the velodrome. Return any way you wish = either back the same way or ride around Lake Sammamish. There is also a gravel trail alternative from Issaquah to Marymore Park, for those who prefer avoiding a road, even one with wide shoulders. And the previously mentioned alternative of cruising around Issaquah, breakfast, meet when we regroup at the start location.

Those wishing to wrench & relax are welcome to join at my home, about 6 or 7 miles away. I'll give out directions at the ride.

Weather update from Accuweather indicates Dry with 60f temp high. Also dry on Friday before.

I have official clearance from my underlings to attend this event, and will be be there at some point, hopefully for the early ride through the whole dang thing.

I'm a little confused by the directions given, @Wildwood, could you post an address or intersection for the startup point, so those of us with googlemaps can find it that way?

Looking forward to this!

Wildwood I would like to attend your gathering this weekend on Saturday. I will need to know where to gather at 9:00 for the ride, plan on me doing the Option #3 ride to breakfast and back. Please PM me with where to meet at 9:00 for the ride gathering. I have asked my best friend if he could attend too, he helped me in getting my second vintage bike last weekend a Nishiki Professional which I will bring to the gathering. I will be riding my modified Nishiki Mixte Olympic 12. Thanks

The starting location is at the intersection of East Lake Sammamish Road and SE 51st Street in Issaquah, north of the 'downtown' area. The traffic light for that intersection is 1.3 miles north of I-90 Exit #17 . The best place to park is in the Office Park that is vacant, about 30 yards from the intersection in one of the dozens of spaces formerly assigned to Siemens Corp.

9:00-ish arrival time, with a push-off time for riding somewhere shortly after 9:30.

10 miles from Start point to Marymoor Park. Regroup at the Velodrome in Marymoor. Return to start point.
My estimate is 2 - 2.5 hours for the ride. That means an approx. finish time around noon.

Those wishing to Wrench are welcome to come to my house = approx 7 miles away off Hwy 900 near May Valley Road.
I will provide address & directions at the ride.
Anyone wishing to skip the ride but come to the afternoon Wrench can PM me for directions to the house.

I hope to get there by the 0930 start time. I have to come by the back roads, but if the weather is nice that will actually be a pleasure. Just slower is all.

Now to figure out which bike to bring. Perhaps I'll give the Sparrow one final fling before I put her on the local CL.

^^^^^ This event is easily postponed for a 10AM or 10:15 start. Just makes the temp a few degrees warmer and lunch a little later.

If anyone has a BB adapter for installation of a new Shimano cartridge UN-55. Instructions call for "special tool TL-UN74-S / TL-UN66". Most grateful to borrow it for a few minutes.

Also - I might have a set of 'aero' brake levers to trade for a pair of non-aero ones (silver, of course). Though a set of Modolo black levers and brakes (long reach & nutted) would be most prized. 9spd Campy mini-set for the right trade(s).

I might be able to make it, but I'll have to see if it interferes with my kids track meet. I have a BBT-2 tool that should work(replaced now by the BBT-22)

Be good to see you if you can make it. In case you can't, I have a Lifu 11B3 which is equivalent to the Shimano thingee without a handle. @Wildwood, do you have a large adjustable wrench (or a 30mm box wrench) or shall I bring that, too?

Later start works fine for me; I'm probably driving up from Gig Harbor that morning. Any Giggers or Tacomans (Tacomen?) need a lift?

Since a couple of people are traveling long distances. Port Angeles, Lacey, Sultan, etc......
New times are 10AM meeting time, 10:30 push-off for riding.

All else remains the same.

Sorry if the new time does not work for others, who have not announced as attending.

^ Hmm... should be flush by day's end and am looking for my first taste of both Dura Ace and SR. Whattya got? Also looking to get a 9-speed Shimano indexing barcon, I'll probably even have the bike I need it for with me.

Doubt I could squeeze into any of your hand-me-down duds, nice as they are. I'm even fatter than the last time we rode together.
