Classy Benotto Mixte

Apologies for the crappy pictures, but I was losing light quickly. Picked this up on CL earlier today, not much information about Benotto bicycles (Classic Rendevous, duh) in general, and almost none about mixtes they produced. I jumped at it though, after recently becoming interested in the idea of a C&V mixte made of nicer materials. My Peugeot mixte is a beast.

This thing is very light and nimble, didn't see any stickers or marking for what the tubing might be, but the rear dropouts are marked as Suntour. The components are mostly Campy Nuovo Record, I think, and the only flaw in the bike that's bugging me is that the downtube shifters have slid down and partially scraped the Benotto sticker off

Anyone know where a catalog scan that shows a mixte offering might be? After some basic maintenance, she's going back on the road for the wife.

Any links or mixte-specific info appreciated!

PS I know the seat isn't right...to be sorted soon

Very nice! What I like about these is that the geometry is more racy than that of most mixtes. My wife has one, and refers to it as her 'fast bike'.

Hers came with the same Modolo brakes, but is probably an early eighties model, as it has braze-ons for DT shifters. Here's a short story on it. It is labelled as a '500 Lady'.

One tip: reverse the cable mounting hardware on the rear brake calliper. It will take the sharpish angles out of the brake cable and improve braking. Looks a lot better too.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Depending on what the cleaning/lube/repacking goes, this may replace the wife's Peugeot PH501. It's pretty and rides well, but she's not a fan of drop bars. After she rode this Benotto, she said something to the effect of, "It's so easy when your hands are up higher." This will be my second earnest attempt at getting her into a geared bike, and break away from her Steamroller (which ironically has low-set pursuit bars). The quest continues!

I'll take a look at that alternate brake cable routing for sure.

I agree, and thanks

This'll be my first time working with vintage Campy stuff, and tubulars. Glad this board is around.

Happy Aloha Sunday.

Bummer that the shifters slid down.
