I ride to my favorite spot, hide my bike in the woods to take a hike.

What? Is my bike a duck? A chicken? Is it getting ready to take a nap?

OH, you want to see a pic of my bike lying on the ground.

"Laying on the ground"? Its a Raleigh Professional DL-180 Mk IV. Not a sway back cart horse. Not a pregnant mare. Not a cow working its' cud. Whatcha thinkin? I've been pretty successful at find trees to prop it against or wee things (logs, rocks, beer cans, curbs, old tires) to lock the left pedal to, such that its not been down. No photos. Now the Trek mtn bikes - ah, they actually are cart horses.....

Exactly. My bikes have names... like horses. Horses sleep standing up.

They've clearly been worked too hard. They're too tired, and can't stand up.

DAMMIT!

I had hoped that no one would notice, my grammar Nazi daughter told me of my mistake shortly after I posted it

I should never make that mistake, we have egg laying hens....... I found these eggs this morning, just lying around the coop.

A forgivable mistake -- just think of the words to the Anglo-English Carol "The Snow Lay On The Ground."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tcBHZDJHMw

It's one of the more messed up usage distinctions in the language. As a Grammar Socialist, I say that it's quite alright to misuse words that are commonly misused, especially in an informal context.

It's still fun to argue about it, though...

Hamlet...: "Here is a skull that hath lain you in the ground..." etc...

My bikes are always lying on the ground when I'm not there to hold them up. They are just two-tired.
