Portland Tweed ride this Sunday

tweedpdx.net

Tea, 10 miles of easy pedaling, picnic stop.

I asked my daughters if they wanted to go, one of them said yes! A few days later I asked if we could dust off the tandem and take that. Yes again! Off to Goodwill on Saturday to pick up some appropriate clothing.

Sweet, Iowa City's is this weekend as well! No free-standing website, unfortunately: https://www.facebook.com/events/797437480368282/

Can't wait to get all dressed up and amaze people by riding a bike and smoking a pipe at the same time.

Naked bike rides.

Tweed bike rides.

You're either overdressed or not at all, eh?

I've got a great tweed jacket, though I can't make it it this one, I don't think. I should probably find a nice pair of baggy wool trousers to tailor into knickerbockers, so I can be ready for something like this, someday!

I wonder if I can show up on my new Raleigh Twenty but no tweed. Don't own any, not buying any and it's gonna be 80.

Bring the Twenty! I need to see it all built up!

Tweed optional, but Goodwill probably has something-a scraf, a jacket, maybe some pants...

Women have to ride in long dresses and sidesaddle.

(Just kidding.)

Wouldn't it be awful if I accidentally confused the World Naked Bike ride and the Tweed Ride?!

Showing up naked for the Tweed Ride would be more awkward than showing up in tweed for the Naked Ride, I think. Either way, it'd be interesting.

I would think for a 'tweed ride' in summery conditions, white or cream colored linen would be considered appropriate, so a traditional lightweight summer suit would be the ticket. You might want to lace up a skirt guard on your wheel, though, unless you're dressing up to pass off as one of the boys.

Oddly enough (or not so oddly, perhaps), I own a lot of tweed. But it's terrible for riding in, especially given your forecast for Sunday, 83ºF! I don't think I could wear it if the temperature were over 40ºF.

Linen, that's the ticket! Wonder if I can find some at the local Goodwill?

Portland tweed weed dweeb ride this Sunday. That should about cover it.

Will a smoking jacket look okay with cycling shorts? Might be too warm to ride around in long pants.

I'll tell Diane. I don't know if I've seen her in a dress since we got married.

If you're in need of parts, the Bike Swap is the same day: Portland Bike Swap ? Buy, sell, swap, donate, peruse, gawk, yammer about bike stuff.

Heck yeah! Swap meets on my calendar. I'll make sure to wear the French Reynolds 531 tubing tee shirt. Goody. Two bikey things the same day.

edit: I guess I don't feel like swapping anything. Will miss the swap meet.

Oops. I've been called to an emergency set build on Sunday. High school drama parent volunteer stuff. I may make the swap meet for the first hour or so, but I will be hammering nails when the tweed ride starts. If @Velocivixen or @gugie want to text me with the ending location of the ride, and the approximate time they'll get there, I will do my best to come admire their outfits!

@jyl - I'm not going on ride, so don't know where it ends. I might attend the pre party carousing. You'll never see me in tweed - not gonna happen. Not into costumes.

On on the other hand I bought a Shutter Precision dyno hub, Velocity Blunt SS 650b rim in black and Sapim D-Light spokes.....can you guess what I'll be doing? I built Mr. VV two sets of wheels, both with dyno hubs, yet I'm always having to worry whether or not I've recharged my lights!

Rear hub will either be White Industries XMR (disc hub) or Phil Wood - prolly White.
