Bikes: 40 - accumulated over (now - more than) 40 years

First part of my bicycle history

Found at my mothers. Wrote and draw it at 6. It says:

My bicycle is bad but it is good in one way - it goes.

I want to point out its revolutionary features. Still not sold to the public.

I guess I have always been a bike nut.

I have framed it and it hangs on the wall of my hobby workshop.

Awesome.

Bikes: mid 1980s De Rosa SL, 1985 Tommasini Super Prestige all Campy SR, 1992 Paramount PDG Series 7, 1997 Lemond Zurich, 1998 Trek Y-foil, 2006 Schwinn Super Sport GS, 2006 Specialized Hardrock Sport

I can't discern how the drivetrain works on that bike design - unless that's a small airplane attached to the downtube.

I have a picture of a Big Wheel I drew at that age. Then 5 years later a Redline BMX I was lusting after.

Let me guess, you skipped a few grades in school as well?

Hahaha... I was sort of early with things - having two older brothers (and getting their old bikes - never a new one).

Totally OT but I hope it is OK - when 14 I drew this and I guess you can understand my interests had changed a bit. At 14 I was into gassers and hot rods (this drawing also from my mothers stash of memorabilia).

When in the last year at university to become an architect I was into VW: s and Porsches.

Man, an early bloomer in the bicycle world, and not to shabby at your art work. A SAAB gasser, that is a first! Please don't stop your posts, the history of the bikes you share with us and the humorous posts, also make things brighter.

Thanks Bill, I just hope no one thinks I am spamming too much as new here - I am just very happy to have found my way here. There is no forum for me here in Sweden. I hang out at a fixed gear site over here and it is a nice site but my bike interest is not in line with what is "normal" there. I am also on the CR list and that is also a nice place but the cut off at 1983 is a bit too early for all my biking "needs". BF has a broader base and it is interesting to read about different kinds of bikes - a broader view.

Bikes: Yes

Great you have those drawings and keep them close. Looks like you always have wanted a better bike. :-) That seems to hold true seeing you have a nice collection.

I have some old stuff somewhere that my mom gave me once I got older. Another thing she did was put together a small photo album of pictures that were each of us kids only, all her old pics, and gave us for Xmas about 15 years ago. The best gift I have ever received. My avatar is now one. I rode a lot more BMX but found one of me on a road bike in 1980 at 10. I see something different every time I go back through. I found that one recently while thinking of my dad (missing him).

Not at all! It's a very interesting "multi-part introduction." Keep it coming.

Agreed 100%, you aren't spamming here, at all. Scott has it nailed, and it seems that several others are in agreement too. I have also registered at CR, neat place, but it is low traffic it seems. I thought the time cut off ought to be closer to 1987-88, but it is his site, and we play by the rules. It is a good source of information and research, I have found several things I have wanted information on there, and the 1985 Sutherland's Bicycle Mechanics Handbook was a pleasant surprise. Now, if I could only afford a nice condition print copy.

Please keep posting your history, and about your cycling. it is most welcome.

Bill

I liked to draw, too, and kept a lot of old stuff

I always enjoy these little insights into Forum members. I mean, it isn't all about the bike, right?
