Papillionare Path Racer
Lugged chromoly frame and fork. 5 colors, two sizes. $645 with optional 8 speed Nexus and leather saddle.
I emailed Papillionaire and they replied in less than 2 hours.
The top tube length is 600mm on the large size and the 8 speed hub spacing is 135mm, 3 speed hub spacing 120mm.

one can get a lot of bike for $650. and it can be well below 28 lbs.
there's a davidson for sale on my local craigs for $600. in several years, it will lose no value. with a refurb job, it should appreciate greatly.
but your new 28 lb bike will be worth half of what you paid.

But if one wants a new bike, that is a pretty one and reasonably priced.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.
That's pretty cool, and lugged, too. Brooklyn, NY company, but not touting "Made in America" so, probably Taiwan or Malaysia? Where does Linus get its frames? Although I think Linus' are mostly TIG welded. The two websites and products are so similar it almost makes me think they are the same company.
I like the looks, and the practical gearing choices. But Bill is right, not for the C&V snob intelligentsia. More for newbs who want a hassle-free new bike that looks old and classic.

If I wanted to spend that much on a new classic looking bike, I'd rather have this (preferably the B variant): Detroit Bikes » The Bikes

The reason I like the Papillionare is that I'd like to do some classic cycling events but I don't want to do the usual 50/60/70/80s road racer schtick. I want to go back further.

I just want to know if a papillionaire is richer than a gazillionaire.

Well, except for our 6th Grade substitute teacher.....mini skirt, sweater, bleach blonde
That was better.

...are clearly mounted on both bikes in the olde-timey picture.

Well I don't like fake custom bikes myself. They say there bikes are custom and they only offer a couple of fits all frame sizes? I would consider sizing about the most important aspect of a semi custom built to order bike.

They have a store in Brooklyn. I was actually planning on passing by to check it out next week, not for a bike though possibly the sprung saddle. What do you guys think of that saddle's potential quality? Nice looking bikes though.

I emailed Papillionaire to get the top tube length of the large size. 600mm is perfect for me, 6"0", with that type of bar.

Coaster brakes, nyet. Traffic 100 years ago bears no resemblance to traffic today.
