Anyone know anything about the Marinoni Sprint model? Not much info around on it. Seems it was usually made with Columbus Chromor - I think I see a Chromor decal in the picture.

Is it still a Marinoni handmade frame? Looking at an ad for a 1988 with 105 components.

Fo sure it would still be a handmade frame. Marinoni didn't make any dogs. 105 is great and nothing wrong with Columbus Cromor, I think it's under-rated because of the association with seamed tubing. I had a Cromor bike and it seemed as light and responsive as SL to me.

I think I saw the one you're talking about. It's a looker, and a pretty good price. Don't know anything particularly about the Spring model, but Marinonis are fantastic bikes, very underrated in the states.

Yes, those are Cromor decals and they are the version that came out for the 1988 model year. Also, it doesn't have the embossed stay caps used on the higher end frames. However, the group appears to be 105SC which did not come out until 1990.Yes, it was still hand brazed.

My brother picked this up for me. Odd, he went to look at it on Friday but the guy wouldn't sell it cause he had someone coming on Sat. to look. First rule of selling anything like this is mostly first come first served - unless someone is actually on their way to see it. Specially since this bike had been up for sale for at least a couple of weeks. Not sure why it was slow to sell, it was priced extremely well, maybe the lowish component group, or the blue tires.
Of course the Sat. guy was a no show and my brother had to go back to buy it.
Trip to Ottawa next weekend to get it. Better pictures then.

It's supposed to be a 58 cm which is on the small side for me - a 60-62 is about right and I can ride a 64 no problem. Can't usually use a vintage road bike seat post on a 58.

WRT to the seller holding it, it's likely they had a prior arrangement with the other looker. I admire their integrity, the other person likely inquired first and asked if they could come on saturday and they had an agreement.

I'd agree, it does look bigger than 58 cm. I asked for a measured size and that's what he told me. Then again, I asked to verify the Columbus tubing and he told me SL but to me they look like Chromor decals - and that's what Sprints seem to usually have. And I asked him to tell me what rims were on it and he told me 105. He's obviously a bike flipper but doesn't seem that knowledgeable.

As a bike flipper I'm surprised he'd hold a bike - making a sale can be tough enough without turning down a sure thing at the asked for price. Specially this bike has been up for at least a couple of weeks.
When I sell a bike and someone makes an appointment same day I'll hold it but if they want to come on a other day I always make it clear it's subject to prior sale and that I will notify them. The person he was holding it for was a no show so he could have easily lost the sale.

So it's 60 cm center to top. Columbus SL decal with Chromor fork decal. A very nice ride, quite happy with it.
Not sure if I can live with the bar tape but it's good tape, hate to change it. May have to keep an eye out for a stem, I think I'd like a cm or 2 shorter.
Tried the white pedals this time and I think they look a lot better on a road bike than the black.
So now I have a Marinoni, a Cyclops and a Proctor. Need a Mariposa now - not likely, I've only seen a couple for sale and they usually go for the big bucks. Never seen a Lovell built bike for sale.

I've currently got a Marinoni, a Gardin, and used to have a Cramerotti and multiple Mieles. I've also got a Talbot frame that may be your size. It needs a total restoration but the build quality looks superb.

Re the Maple Leaf bikes blog. Tamarack bikes are exquisite. Some really innovative designs. And there's a courier in downtown Halifax who's been pushing big gears up steep grades for years on a Lovell track bike. He's poetry in motion in traffic and I'm glad that bike gets to work hard. Lovell would like it.

I don't know if it was posted but Lovell died earlier this month. A top level Canadian road rider, a monster on a track. Many have never heard of him because of unfortunate circumstances. RIP Jocelyn
