This is an introduction as well as a farewell. Our dog Roxy is an Australian Shepard that has been with us 13 years. Her birthday is the same day as mine. She gets us off the coach to walk her almost every day. The slide from healthy to no return happened faster than I was expecting. We were able to get in a couple of short walks this last week end. She has stopped eating and drinking so my wife is coming to take her to the vet this morning for the final time. She always let the deer know in our back yard that it was her turf. I just let her out so she can tell them behind our fence that she is the boss. They seemed to know were are vegetarians and that Roxy couldn't go beyond the fence.
This is the MUT trail where we usually took her for a walk.
Letting the deer know this was her yard for the last time
She never got tired of getting affection

Old enough, hmmm?
Our 14.5 year old Seppala Husky in her younger days
.
Lots of fun.
The dog trails at our XC venue are all rated in the BLACK class. Lots of downhill, uphill and rolling terrain that will keep the less experienced at bay (aka the "oh no factor" ) and give the rest — both dogs and humans — a good workout.

A big yellow dog in a big yellow landscape.
I haven’t had dogs for 20+ years but he is our unplanned dog. He showed up under my truck 13 miles south of Nowhere in September out on the Colorado plains after a hike. We could leave him there and couldn’t find a ranch he belonged to so we took him to Denver. We were going to drop him at a shelter but the damned dog was so mellow we kept him.
Dressed for Halloween.
Can you guess his name? Old Yellow Eyes is back.

We had to put down our beloved 15-year-old dog, Brooks, a couple of weeks ago. Both of my kids were able to come home to say goodbye. We had a vet come to the house to do it, so he was at home surrounded by his family when he passed. I have a giant hole in my heart. Best dog ever.
P.S. No saddles we’re harmed in the making of that collar.

^^^sorry!
I used to say that if you want to see me cry, you gotta put a bullet in me or a gold medal on me.
Then I had to put down my 18 1/2 year old Jack Russell...

He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Traveled about
The dog up and died
He up and died
After twenty years he still grieves

I had forgotten those lyrics from Mr. Bojangles. Had a good cry just now, when I read them. I needed that. Thank you.
That’s a handsome big yellow dog that adopted you. Beautiful eyes! You can just tell how smart and sweet he is.
Regards,
Tim

He’s been super easy to train. He stops when I tell him to wait, he comes when called even at the park, he’s learned to wait at every corner before crossing and will only go when I tell him to.
On the other hand, he has me trained as well. Everyday he is up at first light and we go for a 1.5 mile walk. Then at night he is ready to go out the door promptly…I think he can read a clock…at 4. And we go for another 1.5 mile walk. I’ve walked nearly 300 miles within a 5 block radius over the last 3 months and that’s more than I have walked in this …or any…neighborhood. And I’ve lived in this house since 1992.
The upside of all this walking is that I haven’t had to clean up after him in my yard yet.
