The Bikesmith cotter press arrived, along with some Raleigh cotter pins and some spares he had that I'm going to try filing down and use with my Peugeot's crankset if the originals cannot be reused.
I have a '79 Raleigh Sports derelict which I got for free that I want the crank and bottom bracket parts from for future use on my 1950 Superbe. Now that I have the cotter press, I can remove the crank without destroying everything with my fix-all hammer, and take the frame over to the co-op. It is taking up valuable work space and storage space (I have an apartment). Later on when I get going on the AO-8, I can remove the cotters properly and service the bottom bracket. The press is quite a nice piece of metal work. I can also service the '50 Raleigh Superbe bottom bracket properly and change out the 70 year old bearings and grease...

UPS kindly delivered my long cage Microshift R10 so I finished the last part of the drivetrain upgrade on my International. I expect to give it a run on Saturday, which will also be my first real ride now that my shoulder is sufficiently (but not completely) rehabbed.

Can't resist a picture, I'm excited I've got this assembled as much as I can until more bits arrive like bar wrap chain and not sure where to get affordable tubulars for a decent price without them flating first ride...

Started working on cleaning up the free UO9 from last weekend. Pulled off the steel wheelset and will swap in the Rigida alloy unit from last fall's PH10. The brake levers with suicide bars were swapped with drilled DiaCompe. I'll need a 24.0 Laprade style seat post. Everything else should be good to go. I thought about swapping out the Simplex deraillers but decided to leave them since they are both in pretty good shape.

After putting 15Km on the clunker challenge Trek 520 Cirrus, I decided it was time for some TLC

In addition I put fresh grease on the Seat post and stem and cleaned and lubed the chain. I think I will leave it at that for the remainder of the challenge and then give it the full spa treatment.

WV is not flat..
Considering options for the replacement for the Headshok on this F500. It is collapsed and parts are almost non existent. Think I am going to adapt a 1 1/8 front shock onto it. These are fun bikes.

I rebuilt and polished this V-GT luxe today because honestly to myself riding 42-24 that I have on my Paino will be a tough ask in my area.
It's to late in the day to try now but looking at it against the Superbe derailleur the cage from the v-gt looks like it'll fit, everything measures up. Wonder if it's been done before?

So, just swapping the cage over may not get you what you need. You could just swap in the whole V-GT and ride it for a while to see what you learn. Yesterday, on my Nishiki with the long cage Cyclone, I swapped a 14-26 FW for a 14-28. No further changes needed as the RD was, by design and by frame geometry, far enough back to clear that 28 cog. I could probably run a 30 cog back there. But I'm just a young squirt so no need.
BTW: if the V-GT works as is then just cover the name with white freezer tape and write "Superbe" on the tape with magic marker. No one will notice, eh?

It sounds like you're thinking about a wider range FW, 14 - 28 or bigger. That needs two things. More chain wrap which the V-GT cage would give you. You also need ample clearance between the guide wheel and those largest cogs. That can come from a cage that swings lower, or having a cage set further back. Further back can be further back in the DOs or from the RD body positioning the whole works further back, like the V-GT shown in your photo. Or from the length of the RD hanger which is tough to change.
So, just swapping the cage over may not get you what you need. You could just swap in the whole V-GT and ride it for a while to see what you learn. You want to install a V-GT Luxe cage on a Superbe? It might work or it might not. Suntour did not use the same mounting dimensions and attachments for all their slant parallelogram derailleurs despite their similar appearances. You'll have to take them apart to see.

Just had a quick visual at some of the good points you mention. The cage swing between the two derailleurs looks the same. It seems all they've done is move the top jocky wheel lower onto the cage pivot and spread the jocky's further apart were the Superbe cage pivot is between the jockys. The high inner cage plate actually works out the same height as the Superbe this way.
The only difference I can see is is from the hanger bolt the Superbe cage pivot bolt will be about 10mm further forward than the v-gt.
It looks interesting and see if mixing parts the cages will swap. If I could just get a 28t freewheel on I'd be satisfied. We'll see what happens, if it doesn't work it would be best just finding a Cyclone GT.

It's no go for a longer cage on Superbe body. The cage pivots too different to mix parts. It's possible to make a shaft like the Superbe is internally but extended out the back with a thread but I'm not equipped to do it at home.
The superbe body doesn't have a bottom in it to drop the vg-t spring against with a hole to hold the spring from spinning inside. I don't want to molest the superbe body to make that work, it's to nice for that. So now we know

I prolly shouldn't say ah toad ja so, but ah toad ja so. Well, it's a good "learning experience". You might want to try a Cyclone GT cage. BTW, the cage springs are different between the VGT/Vx series and the Cyclone Mk I, if you haven't noticed already. (Actually they are different whether you noticed or not.) The Cyclone Mk II is totally different, with a flat-wire spiral spring instead of a square-wire helix.

I installed a Stronglight 99 drillium crankset on my '78 Peugeot PR10 today. It had a Sugino GT compact 52/34 that I installed temporarily to replace the damaged Stronglight TS that was on the bike. I found the Stronglight 99 at the Eroica swap meet, and decided to go for it. It's a 52/36, but close enough.
Also I swapped brakes on my newly acquired Legnano Gran Premio. The Balillas on there were badly oxidized and the rear frame mounting screw was stripped. I found these nice shiny ones on Ebay at a good price, plus they have quick release levers, probably later vintage.
Previous Sugino GT 52/34.
Stronglight 99 52/36.
Balilla brakes, old and new.
I will be doing new cable and housings when I go thru the bike and overhaul everything, these are just to test fit and function.
