A C&V event for me and my better half

As this whole thing began 40 years ago, actually it extends back into the early 60s, I am putting this out here in my favorite forum as it is definitely both classic and vintage. Today is our 40th wedding anniversary, our marriage is the best thing that ever happened to me, Monica supports my cycling 100%, she is a good rider herself, but prefers doing Jazzercize now. She had ridden a Century, was a board member in our old time club, and is generally my reason for living. Any, one that can put up with my rambling on about bikes is someone to enjoy being with for the rest of my life. And, someone to ride with, too.

Now, I am planning on building her a good, lightweight road bike, something with a C&V frame in her 52cm frame size, but with current components and wheels. Suggestions for a frame are most welcome. She wants something light, with relaxed geometry, and compliant in its feel.

Just want to share how happy I am to have reached this milestone, and plan to celebrate with a nice ride this afternoon, then we are headed to dinner at our favorite swanky restaurant for some excellent Greek food. Have a super Independence Day Holiday weekend everyone, including all our friends in other countries. Peace.

Bill

Bill,
Congratulations to you and your bride on the 40th.

Am I presumptious in her preferring a mixte frame over a touring or sport diamond frame?

Congratulations on your 40th as well. If you're interested in contemporary steel frames, soma makes a good selection of road bikes. SOMA Fabrications | For the everyday cyclist

If you want to modernize a C&V frame, I'd put out a WTB in the sales section. Personally if looking for an all around road bike, I'd look for a sports touring bike,

Congratulations to both of you!

You're in the speedy C&V group but when I read the title, was thinking of this - lol.

You might consider a vintage Carbon Fiber frame. Can I use those words in the same sentence?

I'm really enjoying my Colnago C40 build (with modern components).

It might take some hunting to find the perfect frame in a close enough size. As always, be careful of different measurements (center to center vs center to top).

Oh, another thought on bikes.
Perhaps Titanium.

There are quite a few vintage Titanium bikes and frames that come up for sale, often pretty cheap. But, the newer ones might be a bit tougher and less flexible.

Happy 40th anniversary Bill and Monica! May you enjoy many more together--- whether riding your C&V bikes or in whatever you are doing to enjoy each others love!

Just curious, did you have a Bicentennial themed wedding? Being so close to the 200th Independence Day celebration?

I'd like to suggest a '76 Paramount P13 as the perfect gift!

Pastor Bob, it was not big on the Bicentennial celebration, but we had pictures made with us holding the Flag😉

Thanks everyone for the replies. Monica wants to get away from her hybrid, and back to a lightweight, drop bar bike. Last organized ride got to her arms with the flat bars. I have a nice SRAM Rival group to use, she wants something classic steel, and I will spread the stays (cold set) and pick up a suitable crank set. Good idea about the WTB thread.

I appreciate all of your advice very much.Thanks.

Conga-rats on the 40 years!

AND to having a wife who supports and enjoys the hobby as well!

Can't help you with a small-frame steel bike though...

Good luck with the search, and many more happy years together!!!

Congratulations on your 40th. That is a strong testimony in this day and age. We just celebrated 38.

Frame? Come on. Make it Reynolds 531c. You knew that.

Congrats on finding a keeper!

I like the suggestion of a vintage Ti such as a Merlin. Another thought: Not that it would be easy or cheap (and prob wrong to spread such a thing, not to mention Italian threading issues) but a '76 De Rosa with all the heart cutouts and engravings would be sweet.
