Cinelli 1R Stem Expander Bold Replacement
 

I have a Cinelli 1R stem where the allen head is stripped on the wedge expander bolt. I can tighten it but not enough to secure bars. Any one know where to find a replacement bolt?

Get a 1A and don't look back. The 1R is prone to cracking across the faceplate.

If you really want to fix this, try yellowjersey. They might have it.

Just replaced a black 1A stem with a chrome 1R. The 1R I have is in nice condition with the exception of the bolt. It was quite hard to find a 100mm 26.4mm 1A thats why I went 1R.

You could de-anodize your black stem if it is the size you want. I did this to a Cinelli XA stem with great results. Took about 30 minutes to complete.

Any details on your de-anodizing process? Did you use greased lighting or a special de-anodizing product?

I broke a 1R. Scary, I was about to climb a really big mountain. Turns out that if you are really careful, it doesn't really matter if your handlebars are free to rotate. Safely rode it home and got another bike.

Someone probably has a bolt and wedge from a broken stem. But isn't it just a 6mm bolt?

I purchased some drain cleaner at Home Depot that has lye in it powered form, (some people have had good results with Easy Off Oven Cleaner) mixed a few tablespoons in a small amount of water it with hot water, let it soak for five minutes, pull out and wipe clean. Place back in for another few minutes to get the stuff you missed and wipe again. Mothers Polish to get the shine back. Some people like to wax the stem after because it will tarnish. I would buff mine from time to time. Don't leave it soaking for a long period, bad things will happen. Place it in the bath and watch.

Once you do it you will ask yourself why didn't try this sooner, it really is that easy.

I also have done this to White Industries cranks, two pair and I will do this on two pair of White Industries pedals that have the anodizing wear off from use in the next few weeks.

Really it is easy. I use Ro-Tyme Crystal Drain Opener but there are others that do the same thing.

I was able to find what seemed to be the only replacement bolt in Colorado! Thanks to the local LBS. They had one bolt/wedge replacement kit for $20. All went back together and bars are secure and bike looks great with the new stem.
