Biking to the swimming hole: DIY terrycloth seat cover

Hot summer fun project: I plan to ride my C&V bike to the local swimming hole, but the ride home is going to be a bit uncomfortable in thin, wet bathing trunks. My DIY solution was to make a saddle cover out of an old terrycloth bath towel, some lanyard, and a plastic cinch thing. (Locating that piece was the hardest part. It's called a "Plastic Toggle Spring Stop Single Hole String Cord Lock" and only available at craft stores).

Good point. But no, it's just open woods. Most people change in their cars. But if you're riding a bike....

Nice work and it very luxurious. Reminds me of my '74 Corolla seat covers.

I don't think the people changing in their cars would appreciate OP taking pictures of them.

Very clever! We've got a few old backpacking towels around; they might be ideal for this.

Had a quick dip. The seat cover performed flawlessly and was very comfy.

Sitting on wet terry cloth doesn't sound comfortable to me, but I'll take your word for it.

I still have one of those old "sheepskin" saddle covers. I use it as a polishing cloth.

I must be lazy! I read this with interest, like the pictures and all. After I go for a swim, I just wrap the towel around my waist, drop the swim suit and pull on the shorts.

But I'm happy the seat cover worked, I'm getting ready to make a lambs wool cover for another type of seat and was admiring the simplicity of you cover. Good job, I'm still too lazy....matter fact, that sheep skins a couple a year old already.

I suppose some people are born "bathing suit changers" and others are committed "wet riders"....

lol - we used to nickname our daughter (when she was little) "Queen of Sheeba" cuz when we got to the car she couldn't tolerate the sand between her toes, so we would either clean her feet and carry her to the car or bring a bucket of water to help her clean them off. she's 19 now and we still give her grief about if (even tho she got over it)

Nice! My Brooks likes to bleed onto my red surf shorts after a session. I'm about to fix that. Thanks.

OK. That looks like either Arizona. Or maybe California.

Utah ???

Was there actually somewhere to swim out there?

I hadn't even considered a waterproof gel seat cover like the Serfas (or as I call it, Serf-ass). I see they're on Amazon for around $10. Oh well, my DIY version was a fun project.

mine isn't gel padded just a slip on cover. it's not absorbent like your original and elegant solution :-) I only got mine cuz the Brooks is leather and had to wait a day for it to dry when it got caught in the rain. someone here mentioned it so I've been experimenting with it this season
