New Wheels
Hey guys... Someone stole the front wheel of my 1992 Trek 970. My wheel was the original Matrix 26 inch 7 speed wheel that came with the bike. I need a replacement but have no idea where to start. What am I looking for? I want to replace the rear wheel too. I use this bike a lot... Mainly on paved roads... School/work. Any pointers? I would like to spend no more than $200. I need to know what wheels would support the original setup. Thank you very much.

Your best bet for a cheap wheelset is to check out a local bike co-op or bike shop. They should have a lot of 26" wheelsets lying around. Or check out Craigslist.
If you want to stay on the internet you can order these Velomine wheels. Sun rims with Deore hubs. Good quality. That's $149 for the pair. 7 speed compatible. Grab a 7 speed HyperGlide cassette to go with it.
Or you could build your own wheels and learn a valuable skill.
Edit: By the way that '92 970 is a sweet bike. Lugged True Temper goodness!

Thanks, I really love my 970. Thanks for the link. I've been reading the forum and I didn't even know if I had a cassette or a freewheel... I guess I have a cassette. When shopping for wheels, knowing that I have a cassette... Do I look for cassette compatible wheels or are wheels compatible with both?
