Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this
Vitus 979
My buddy is trying to talk me into buying a Vitus from him. It's in great condition with Victory components. The wheels are an 8 speed Gipiemme set. He's offering it up at a great price, but I have no idea about these. It does fit me pretty good. What's everyone opinions on these? By the way, I do like fast twitchy race bikes.

When I was cruising the LA CL I saw this one:https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...763735289.html
I was briefly tempted, in part because it's 5 minutes from where I'm currently staying, and partly because it's absolutely gorgeous. But it was well above the price limit I'd set for myself. And when I did a search here, I read some accounts that gave me pause. I'm light enough that the bike would probably have been fine for me. Maybe one day I'll check one out.

High speed descending on our chip seal roads calls for calm confident bike handling on a 979, which you might enjoy, or not.

I'm a cadence rider, I've never been a masher. And in central Indiana theres no such thing as decents.

Other than the seat post, are the measurements the same? I figured if I buy it and don't like it I could sell the frame and fork for what I bought the whole bike for. Then swap parts over to a steel lugged frame. Not sure about the bottom bracket spindle.

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.
I like mine a lot. Great climber, but as Bandera says descents can be a little squirrelly until you get a handle on it. I've followed his advise and no longer have qualms. The one in the barn is pretty old school, friction SunTour Superbe Pro/Modolo rolling on Campy Yipslon wheels.
