Ghost bikes are white most often.
There are a few white bikes that were a team signature. Faema had white ( ok, red head tube and seat tube panel) Confentes had white as Mario's signature color, (yes, yellow head tube ) Peugeot used white as the signature team color for a while. There must be a few others. |
Some people will take offense to all white bikes because that is usually reserved for memorial bikes.

Here is my White Fuji Stratos a model made for the Japanese market, not vintage but a bit of a classic style.

Very striking and handsome bike. :thumb:
I like white bikes too. Guess that's why I have three of them. :) |

Ghost bikes are spray painted all white. Tires, saddle, chain, everything. This bike isn't like that and is fine.
Guess I'm pointing it because I recently heard a story from a former REI employee. They sell a German brand of bikes called Ghost. One of the models was an all white bike that REI ended up pulling from the shops because having an all white bike branded "Ghost" is getting pretty close and they had gotten complaints from employees. |

A few years back was passing through Rockford, perhaps a busier (er' rougher) part of the city and spotted one hanging on a chain link fence. I suspect many bikes are stolen and one needs to be extra minded with stuff. But this particular ghost bike was really nice. Surprised me no one ransacked it. Especially with the number of desperate metal scrappers there... and they are ruthless! Anyways it was some sort of steel lugged. Quick but a closer look revealed a TA crank, had large flange hubs (unable to id with paint covering) and decent looking derailleur group. All tidy white sprayed from saddle, spokes to toe clips. |

Thanks for posting that. I knew it was an anarcho-thing, but didn't know the real history.

It's just a thing that caught on. Any statement as to beginnings is in large part conjecture. Many similar ideas develop at about the same time, well apart from each other's influence, and the internet definitely spreads that. I've never been to the northeast, but I've seen ghost bikes since well before the internet. They've only gone more mainstream lately. Akin to the crosses and flowers on the side of the road where people died. There have been markers set for centuries for things like that. The ghost bike is just another. If they were actually recognized by 99.9% of the population as meaning something, it would be cool, but otherwise, it's a piece of junk to most people. I actually saw people painting a bike white that had been chained to a post for at least a year. I have no idea what they thought they were doing. What I want to see is a ghost bike hanging over a power line at an intersection, and a pair of sneakers painted white on the side of the road. |
It's been shown elsewhere but I like white bikes as well.https://bertinclassiccycles.files.wo...ive-side-1.jpg
