Speaking of '88 Criterium Series.....

Somehow, I knew I'd see that.

Update:
First of all I appreciate the input, even if it's partially you and your bikes and your forum's fault I'm even attempting this build

I decided to skip the powder coaters all together and hit the LBS. A bunch of youngerish guys that can't wait for the snow on Sunday so they can run their Fatboys. I think they're crazy. Long story short, all went well and the cups are in the bottom bracket. He even reamed the seat tube as there was powdercoat in there and the seatpost would not go in. He also chased the derailleur bracket because .... yep...powdercoat in there.

I rushed home to find out that the drilled Sugino RT crankset will probably not fit in place of the original Sugino VP crankset. I think its going to rub. Can't change out the rings either. Rookie mistake. I'll investigate further when I have the time. Love the look of the drilled cranksets.

To answer a previous question, yes the bike had the top tube cable guides which I removed, snapping all the pins, but saved the guide itself. In a pinch I think you could epoxy them back on but ordered 3 from Shapeways instead. They may not be the quality of the ones at Vintage Cannondale, but I wasn't paying $32. Who do they think they are, Apple ?

Since I am in the Tundra, and the busy xmas season is upon us, I am in no real rush to finish the bike. I have a few more decisions to make and a few more parts to buy. I will certainly take some pics when finished and let you guys all see what you helped create with all of your help and inspiration and foolishness !! I perv pics almost every day and hope to keep myself from falling down the rabbit hole too far.

Smart choice getting the LBS to chase the BB threads, and nice bonus in getting the seat tube and RD hanger chased as well. I am not one for epoxying the bodies of the TT cable guides on, those repops should be fine, I agree about the price of the VC items. Sounds like you have lots to pass the time while the cold is still set in.

I'm glad it went well for you. Nothing wrong with a bike to occupy you while everyone else is in the playoffs. Yes, I'm a cheesehead and suffering a bit. Good news, a major expert lives in Appleton, our own JohnE, I think, so you've got a resource but it may cost you a cup o' joe.

The colors look good and if you carry through on what we see so far, that's going to be a bucketful of good riding. You may have so much fun, you'll get some plaid pants and ride down in Waukesha with The Golden Boy.

That being said, the Dairyland Dare approaches next August, and we'd love to have you there, bring the bike, and we'll have some fun. Perhaps we can talk Doc Cannondale into bringing the Yellow Fever, his all-day, any way ride.

Good on you.

You cannot hijack a Cannondale thread by posting Criterium Series pics. A total impossibility.

...fitting your preferred crankset can often be accomplished by obtaining a BB unit with a longer spindle. Basically, you dry fit the one you want on the spindle you have installed, and then figure out with measurement and a bit of instinct how far out your drive side needs to move to not interfere. Add the same distance in mm to both sides and you get your new spindle length, more or less.

But it is true that if the reason for the interference is too large of a small ring, you get a better shot at good chainline by dialing it down a little.
