When you lose one ball bearing and you don't have any spares or
when you strip the threads of your cranks trying to get them of.

That's fine - I'm in the "doing poorly" stage with singing lessons and being more social!

When that 1KG steel handlebar that you forgot about on the top shelf comes crashing down while trying to retrieve a suitcase. Slicing through your barefoot middle toe, leaving a trail of blood all the way to the E.R which is 2 blocks away. Rode the bike there of course

when you come to a stop light with cars to your left and only 2 feet of space between you and curb and cars are hauling azz across in front of you then fooking Cujo decides to casually come at you and take a bite off your leg. I had no where to go. Happened to me twice in the same spot by the same damn dog. This happened all within the same year (some 25 years ago).

When you clean the frame and find a hairline crack where the rear dropout meets the fork and the stay has been ground to fit a 7 speed.

So the frame has to be stripped of chrome before being welded then re painted and decaled.

Loosing battery power is a PITA. that is why I use not only my computer on the bike, but two different apps on two phones! Lots of back up! I am not about to compare the data to determine which is right. I believe my cheap bike compter more than lousy GPS tracking. I really didn't ride on the wrong side of the road and I didn't go through the Bureau of Engraving on my bike!

You didn't? You missed the best part! You simply must do that ride again when you get the chance.

...when your giving it all you've got on a steep downhill on an unfamiliar road and you've just spun out on your bike with the tallest gearing and you're crouched in the drops in maximum rocket position, when the road surface begins to get rough, then you lean around a bend like a pro, only to see that the road ahead becomes considerably bumpier and steeper, culminating in a blind hairpin curve and you're already squeezing the levers as hard as you can without locking them up, and it feels like you're still accelerating.

I no longer go around it to get to work but do go by it twice a day on bike commute days.
I need to sign up for a tour. Always wanted to do that!

...when you're leaned over flying around a hairpin turn and you suddenly realize that the road is wetter than you thought it was, your rear wheel is sliding out from underneath you, there's nothing that you can do about it and you are about to smack the pavement and obtain some epic road rash (happened to me at about 100 km mark on Eroica Gaiole).

is my memory correct in remembering you crashing a nice newly painted white Raleigh Pro on a vintage ride near Lancaster Pa about 8-9 years ago?

You might have bad social riding mojo

I did. It was in 2008, just before the Beijing Olympics, which I watched while recovering from road rash. Believe it or not, I have only crashed twice in my entire life - the other being running into the back of a parked car while riding downhill, talking to a friend when I was about 9. Not even the groundhog that zigged right in front of me and got run over could take me down, so you witnessed an historic event.
