I posted on "The Wacky World..." thread a few days ago (post #13853) about a Peugeot ad on CL that had horrible photos of the bike for sale.
I went back to the ad and thought I saw a Reynolds 501 sticker. I searched the catalogs for a similar paint and decal theme, but came up empty. I am thinking 1990-ish if it is a US model. It is probably an internally brazed mid range model. I contacted the seller today, and she has no knowledge of bicycles, or how to install the front wheel for a decent photo. So I suppose I will schlepp 50 miles to check it out on Saturday.
I'm in contact with the seller, and she just doesn't know how to present the bike properly. I figure that I will either buy it or write a CL ad for her if it doesn't suit me.

I had Sport LX on a bike and it seemed every bit as nice as 105 stuff. The front gear shifted a triple like butter. Kinda like a short cage road spinoff of Deore LX

Can't she just send you several more photos directly? That should provide all the info you need if you tell her specifically what you want to see. It'll save you a trip if it's not the bike you want, and you can still email her the improved ad copy.
You just want to drive over there so you'll have to buy the bike when you arrive in order to justify the trip. You can't fool us.

MauriceMoss I could not find those catalog pages, so thanks very much - now I know what I am looking at.
thumpism You ratted me out. I contacted the seller about better photos (diplomatically of course), and she did not want to bother. So I will probably make the drive and offer less than asking for my trouble, providing the bike is sound.

That does look a little interesting. Judging by wheels it may have seen little use.
I liked the eastern shore just hard to get to and not many truck stops. Hurlock used to be an irregular destination

I picked up the Peugeot Nice this morning, so I'll enclose a couple of "as found" shots. The front tire is toast, the sidewall started to come apart when I pumped it up. I have a slightly used pair of Gatorskins that will take care of that however. The chain looks new, and the paint is quite good - only a few chips. The front reflector is broken, but that's coming off anyway along with its mate in the rear. I'll put new bar tape on it and maybe use what's there as an underwrap. It is a 1990 model based on the serial number and unicrown fork. I went for a short gentle ride on the bad tire and everything works.

I may keep this one; the seat and top tubes are 58cm with a 115mm stem. I have a PH-501 that is 2.5cm larger with a 120mm stem that I will probably sell - it is the upper limit of what I am comfortable riding these days. I replaced the shifter cables and rear shifter housing. The bike shop that tuned it up for the PO last summer cut the housing too short which caused the ferrule at the adjuster to split (you can see that in the first photos). I removed 7 ounces of reflectors and checked the headset and bottom bracket; they had been recently serviced, just as the PO told me. I still need to replace the brake inner cables and do something about bar tape. I cleaned up the cloth tape and can use that for the time being.

Yeah, I like the Fuscia -IT"S NOT PINK DAMMIT! I had some Sally Hanson "Posh Plum" nail polish (which I only wear on special occasions) and it was a bit too dark for the touchup, so tomorrow I will go to Wallgreens and try to find a close match - that always amuses the staff.

Pretty but IMHO those black tires have to go.

I am not happy with the black tires either, but they work for now. I wasn't liking the gumwalls either, so maybe a BF fashionista(o) could help me here.
I would of course need total coordination with cable sheath, bar tape, saddle, and brake lever hood colors. And what about the straps on the cages?

In a past life, I tried to lease a huge climate controlled warehouse space from Koski to the federal government for diplomatic household storage. His prices were a slam dunk deal, but he contacted a congressional representative and that ruined the whole deal and my career in real estate. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.

(Lived at the end of Tilghman's for nigh on a decade, my family having had a place there since I was wee lad. Sold and gone now. My GF used to bike down from B-more... If I were to get another place there, it'd be in Dorchester (Dorster)... Ah, thanks for dredging up memories like a skipjack working an oyster bar. <sigh emoji> It was nice living on the water. <heavy sigh emoji>)
Oh, wait, I still do. Think I'll wander down to the dock, watch the sunset and look for my dolphin pod.
Nice bike, by the way!

How about Blanc Bleached Bone White Sidewalls?

I had a lady colleague from Tilghman's Island for nearly 8 years. She joked that it was difficult to marry someone from there who was not your cousin.
I joke, but if I had to have someone to cover my back in a crisis, someone from Tilghman's or Hooper's would be a good choice.

I am going to channel a press secretary now:
CALM DOWN, SIT DOWN!!!
THE BIKE IS FUCHSIA - NOT PINK, NOT PINK - OKAY!!!
PEUGEOT SAID IT WAS FUCHSIA IN 1990. IN 1990 FOLKS!!!
THAT WAS BEFORE THE FRENCH ALL BECAME COMMIES!!!
Having said that, it does appear to be a bit more pinkish.

You may have heard of, or knew of Wadie Murphy. A book was written about him several years ago. I suppose you either love him or hate him.

The phone book had but three surnames, Harrison, Rowe, and Taylor. I think it was Taylor, or maybe Tyler? Inbreeding was both acknowledged and a reality among residents; cousins were okay.
And yeah, there was a code of looking out for your neighbor back then. Now Tilghman's Island is not only renamed Tilghman, but it's all developed. New zip codes too, which no one used for a decade out of pure orneriness. So it goes.
Three rules on the Island: Don't f*** with someone's boat, don't f*** with someone's truck, and don't f*** with someone's wife. In that order.
I'd toss Smith Islanders onto that list too, though you'd be hard pressed to ken them. Fortunately, I'd read a lot of Shakespeare.
The Eastern Shore of Maryland is a very curious place indeed.
