Raleigh Pro Question

Been doing a bunch of looking around the net and what not. I've seen a Professional with decals that i haven't seen in any catalog or anywhere else online. Anyone seen these? Cheers

I have seen these decals. I could be wrong but I believe these were frames made for the European market.

What is your serial number? Should be able to determine if that is a Worksop Professional MkV and what year it was made... It looks from the image i see to be possibly a 1976-77 MkV but I can't know for sure without the bottom bracket stamped number..

Then again it may be entirely something else... the serial number tells all..

I believe I have seen these markings on frames offered for sale by Raleigh. Thinking late 70s. But then the old RAM is not what it used to be.

Seat stays should date it as they are not fastback. Was it only one year they were not?

This appears to be a Mk V frame which would be about 76-81 and should have a serial starting with W. These frames are based on the SBDU Ilkeston shop Team Pro frames. See link below for a good read on the Raleigh Professional.

ON THE DROPS: Raleigh Professionals Marks I-V, 1968-1981

I see no chrome socks or fork shoulders/so Im guessing older than 74. Yes the serial# tells all on these. Minty looking ride for sure.

At a guess early 80s. We never got them over here once the boom subsided, Raleigh bikes stopped being imported. But bikes with those decals are often seen on Gumtree with 80s components.

I still believe that this is a Raleigh-europen frame. Not a frame available in the US at that time.

I suppose the next question is, this bike, an '80ish Raleigh Professional, 531, Dura-Ace (7200?) fd and rd modolo brakes good shape or an '80ish what is labeled as a Raleigh Record Ace, 531, full Suntour Superbe minus headset, similar condition, similar money. Which do you go for? I'll try to add a pic when I get home. Thanks

If it is the polar blue 1981 Record Ace with Suntour Superbe I'd find it hard not to choose that one. Very pretty.

Both are Worksop frames and therefore a quality frame. I would go for the Suntour Superbe just because I like the group.
