Finally happened
I finally found a " find" at the local Goodwill: mid-eighties road racing bike, all Dura Ace except has wicked nice Record hubs. Frame was re-painted I'm guessing in the eighties since it's a kinda ugly pink /yellow pastel fade. Naturally I bought it for the parts but since I cleaned it a bit I'm conflicted. Can any help devine the brand? Appears to be Reynolds or Columbus tubing with Cinelli lugs fittings and fork crown and Gipiemme drop outs.

I thought that what finally happened was that someone offered enough info. Guess not.

Sorry photos. Won't post, Don't know why

Part it out. You'll get at least 50 space credits for those hubs depending on condition. Same goes for the lugs and dropouts but you'll have to remove them from the frame.

You already know you paid $2.50 too much!:roflmao2:

We need a "How Anyone Can Upload Photos From Anywhere" thread, and then it needs to be made into a sticky!

Turns out it was Columbus SLX tubing. I have no idea why my photos didn't post. I've posted photos many times in the past. I'll try again. I thought we were a friendly community here in classic and vintage. I guess the times have changed.

Try posting them somewhere else and linking them. Without pictures, not much can be said.

I mean, you did ask, "Can you ID this repainted bike with nice tubing and components? Without seeing it?" Correct answer, based on information given? "Not a Takara." ;) |
Photos absolutely refuse to successfully load. From what I have discovered I believe someone put together a road racing bike out of a bunch of quality parts they had: Mid eighties Dura Ace everything except hubs which are Campy record.
Frame is Columbus SLX with what appear to be Cinelli lugs and fittings, and Gipemme drop-outs. Terrible fade paint job: yellow to pink. If I can ever get the photos to load I'll post them |

^ Great idea. BG is always coming to the rescue with pic assists :)
Just a little joshin' going on. I didn't see anything truly mean in any of these posts. Speaking for myself, my post about a "posting pics" thread was genuine - it would surely help a lot of people out. I only use Flickr for hosting, so I wouldn't know, for example, the process for sharing from, say, Photobucket. I hope we can see pics at some point. Us amateur sleuths love to solve us some mysteries! DD |

Refuse to load? So what, exactly, did you try, and what, exactly, was the response. An error message helps. "I clicked on the link marked 'whizbang' and the web page said, 'too busy'". That is something to go on, and in that case, we can help.
You need to understand that you are basically telling us that you have a bike and not much more than that. And that you took pictures of it. |
Crackers. After 22 replies I figured "Finally happened" and I could see some pics.

Ah, those late 80s novelty paint jobs. :D Perhaps there should be a thread on them. Splatter, smoke, stencils, polka dots, fades and more fades. Everyone must have been bored at the time. Seems like they peaked out around 1990 or 91, then people started getting distracted by things like carbon fiber and new technology.
Oh, and this is the C&V forum...there is a thread for everything- http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...int-bikes.html |
