This is a 1993 Batavus Pro. Sachs New Succes group, which had Campagnolo cranks, brifters, seatpost and hubs. Sachs derailleurs and Modolo brakes. This one has the very rare Athena 7 speed cassette hub.

This is the 1991 Professional. New Succes group, but this time with a French origin. Stronglight crank and head set. Cinelli stem and track handle bar. C-Record hubs with 6 speed pinion.... renewed for the 4th time now. Lots of kilometers on this racing frame.

Also, not mine but seen at the local co-op and now gone. Nothing fancy, but similar to the one I used to own.

Ah, yes. Forgot about the Competition. Any idea why Batavus chose the Champion for this 'funny'? I'd have thought the customers for a bike like that would at least be serious enough amateur racers to want a top level machine ...

My Batavus Randonneur GL.

Still a work in progress and Im trying to find something that matches the original Stronglight cranks to replace current shimano/Sachs drivetrain.

Size 64 and indeed it has a surprisingly short top tube. Which is good for me since I have long legs and a short torso.

There was a top level racer!

I have no idea. It's for sure not a comfy bike to ride. So not a bike for the touring enthousiast.
Guess it had to do with costs. Just a wink more expensive than the normal Champion bike.

I forgot there was the "Course" too, which was also above the Champion.....

Think this one is more towards the 84/85's than early 80's. Cables under BB. Could have been done afterwards......

if you're not upside down you're not doing it right. you're making bikes better for everyone else!

What time frame was shipmano forcing those funny round shifter bosses on the bike companies?

The cable thru the toptube could have been done afterwards..... modernized. Which they did a lot at Gazelle. But what's the framenumber?

Shimano you can't type ****mano so I use shipmano. But during what time frame did shimano use that funny round shifter bosses instead of the standard square ones?

Didn't get to it yesterday but here are some other pictures:
- https://www.rennrad-news.de/forum/th...65869/page-130

It originally came with a kick stand and Blackburn front and rear carriers. Stronglight triple and Sachs Huret 3x6 derailleurs.
Reynolds 531 ST tubes, Campagnolo hubs and Mavic cantilevers.

The previous owner of mine tried to make it more like a race bike and cut off the kickstand plate, replaced the triple with a double and removed the front carrier.

As far as I can tell it is from around 1989 and cost something like fl. 1995,- back then. (~€1600 or ~$1880 today)

The plan is to update it with a few more modern components (LED lights and new racks) but to keep it more or less like an older bike with components that match the older aesthetic.

EDIT:

(Not mine, but as original as I was able to find)

Threw some more pictures from other people in this album.

Still is I guess.
Santos, Idworx, VanNicholas and Koga(-miyata) are the main high-end touring bike manufacturers in the Netherlands nowadays.

Some more info:
- short history (Dutch)
- 1988 racing bikes
- 1984 folder (English)
- Original owner of a Batavus Professional

At the risk of spamming.

My girlfriend's Batavus Champion:

Bit of a beater bike but it's meant for riding to and from the train station.

She has got a much nicer Batavus light touring bike that used to be her mom's but I can't find any pictures besides this one.
