"my attorney"
"my art investment consultant"
"my yoga instructor"
"my Certified Financial Adviser"
"my personal trainer"
"my pen pal"
"my unindicted co-conspriator"

And so on.

1. My Marinoni always gives me a feeling of excitement (in a very good way), asking me to push a little harder and ride farther. It felt that way on my first test ride with the seller four years ago, and it still does 7400 miles later.

2. A properly adjusted leather saddle broken in to my odd anatomy. OK, that is kind of a fit element, but such saddles have greatly increased my riding pleasure.

3. The precise feel of a rear shift with the Sachs Ergo shifters, almost like a rifle bolt.

all of the above...and especially that part about "soul." Yup that just about covers it.

Whether or not these count as "things" is debatable

1. When a tailwind nullifies relative wind, and all you can hear is your own breathing and the whoosh-sound of tires on smooth pavement.

2. The sensation of speed combined with the feeling of doing "just the right amount of work" to maintain the speed -- the feeling that you could continue going indefinitely.

3. Beautiful scenery and empty roads.

2. Everything set up and maintained properly, grease and torque included.

3. Steel with tubulars at 110psi

Yes to number 1. A tailwind is nice, but that tailwind is the best. It's like riding a mute cruise missile.

Most original thought goes to the Dinosaur.

I was expecting pictures of bells, whistles, outrageous handlebar tape, inventive mudflaps, headtube badges, and god knows what else.

Must be riding season in the whole world - practical riding examples from all.

I'm not very original. I have to second the following, in no particlar order:

* Quiet drivetrain. One often doesn't think about this until the drivetrain is no longer silent, or until one is out on a solo ride in the countryside.

* Wide, supple tires. Either clincher or tubular, wider is better.

* The confidence instilled by the proper toolkit. It's a real drag when you need a 10mm wrench and all you have are Allen keys.

Bike Things:

1. A quiet and clean drive train.
2. A tasty beverage; usually Haymaker punch.
3. Smooth Tires. 25mm or higher.

Non Bike Things:

1. An open road.
2. A nice stead hill to climb.
3. A friend to ride with.

4. An after ride sour beer. (This one is becoming a rather regular, happy occasion).
