Needing a few questions answered about a vintage 10 speed I just bought.
I just picked up a "Europa Super Fast 2000" that was made in West Germany and I literally can't find any info on the manufacturer anywhere on the net. So, if anybody could help me figure out the date of manufacture(or anything else about it for that matter), I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm not a newbie to bicycles in any way/shape/form...am a 20yr bmx veteran that dabbles in all other forms of cycling as well as having worked at a few bike shops along the way. That being said, I'm COMPLETELY stymied as to any info about this bike. It has a Shimano Eagle rear derailleur, a Thunder Bird front derailleur, and Altenburger Concorde center-pull caliper brakes. Other than that and the make and model, I know NOTHING about this bike. Thanks in advance for any help that you folks can provide! |
Thread moved from Road Cycling to Classic and Vintage forum.

With the components you listed and the name it probably is a very low end bike of not a lot of value made in the early 1970s. Picture(s) could show us a lot more. Roger

I do like the name: Europa Super Fast 2000. :thumb:

Apparently I'm not allowed to post urls until I have ten posts on here so I'm about to make pointless replies until I make that number...bear with me... Lol

Here's a link to seven photos of it. Let me know if you'd like to see more(even though that should cover everything). Also...there is NO serial number anywhere on the frame. Two things I'm very curious about are the two brackets I took pictures of. Is the one that's silver and rectangular a spoke lock?! I've never seen that before...or the weird arrow shaped one on the left fork leg |
|
The bracket on your fork is for a headlight.
|
Low end for sure but kind of cool in a euro sort of west german (so we know it was made before the fall of the Berlin wall) sort of way. The bracket on the fork is for a light/bottle generator combo; the one on the rear was likely a lock as you guessed.

Thanks for moving the thread and for the pic assist Bill! Greatly appreciated.
Big thanks to everybody else too. I've got a buddy that runs a shop in Mpls that was saying about the same for it being a department store bike, but he wasn't sure. I'm glad that the mystery is solved. Now it's time to clean/fully tune her up to get ready to sell...it's way too small for a 6'5" guy like myself. Plus, I already have an almost totally original, banana yellow '71 Schwinn Continental(that's actually my size) that I fully rebuilt a few years back |
Super Fast 2000.

May be a Kalkhoff. If you do a web search under this name you may find a similar model. This manufacturer made use of the Agrati "EXPORT" pattern bulge-formed head used to build the frame we see here. Hubs are WECO brand from (then) West Germany. ----- |
Their top model might have been called the "Super Duper Fasterooney Space Odyssey Racer......as ridden by the Partridge Family"....
They sure had a nifty way of naming products back then!...........such innocent times......:D |

Looks to be a Staiger product. Note seat stay attachment, Agrati "EXPORT" pattern bulge-formed head, dropouts, pump peg, fork crown & fork crown cap of this machine - http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/LoMAAO...GZ/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Lx4AAO...Gc/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/MFUAAO...Gj/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/GKYAAO...G3/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ZQUAAO...G6/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/P~gAAO...Gz/s-l1600.jpg ----- |
A company can add; pump pegs, a lock bracket a dynamo bracket but can't do decent cable guides? smh. Love the name, not just fast but SUPER Fast.
