Galmozzi....maybe
Hi everyone first time poster i have tried to post this a few times but i have had no luck. Maybe i bad conection. Anyway i picked this bike up for $25 to convert into a single speed but after doing a little research i think i might have found something worth restoring to its origanal glory. The 2 bike shops i went to with the bike had very little info on it and i cant seem to find to much for myself searching the web. I think it is a legit galmozzi with some upgrades/downgrages depending on how you look at it. I dont want to spend money trying to get something painted and make it period correct if its a knock off. But any info on the bike would be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Ha i just have to figure out how to upload pics now!

Does anyone know if this is a galmozzi or just a knock off. Thanks!
EDIT: And welcome to the forums! |
It says i can not upload pics because a security token is missing. Is this because i only have 1 post under my belt?
I'll send you an email address via PM...send the photos and I'll post for you.
I believe you need 10 posts to post pics or links.

I cant open pm's either because of my limited post. But thank you
Well im pretty sure its a galmozzi. Its not in great shape and has mismatched components where someone pry swapped stuff out over the years
There is a bike shop sticker by the crank that says "turin bicycle co op chicago"
Front wheel is campagnola with a hub that says "phil"on it in rather big letters
The back wheel was def swapped out at some time, it is a mavic ma3 rim
The dropbars are 3t with a cinelli neck
I know the shifters are not origanal. They are shamano tiagra with brakes and shifter in one. I think they are called brifters? It has a shamano deore rear derailer, again not origanal
Under the crank there are 7 holes drilled into the frame
On the top bar right by the seat it is a hand painted "wanamaker"
Posting for OP...he's offered to take more photos later:

Seems like Wanamaker was a VERY BIG guy!
Not familiar with Galmozzis, but that looks to be a very nice bike!:thumb: |
Is this live yet? Test.
Yes that is real. Yes, Wanamaker was a customer and he was tall. You have a gem. To be utterly original you would want to revert to 120 spacing. Tutti Campi of course. Your frame is barely used. Original luster on paint. Touch it up and be happy.

Knowing that it is legit Maybe i will do a slow rebuild on it and bring it back to period correctness. Its funny because i almost passed it up. At first it was marked $50 and the guy working saw me checking the bike out and basically told me if i want it for $25 just to take it because he was sick of looking at it. I dont know maybe it was there for a while or he stubbed his toe on it to many times but it turned out to be the easiest haggle i have ever been involved with! Anyway thanks for the replies/help and thank you so much for helping me upload the pics!

You got yourself a real deal there
Forgive my ignorance but what makes these bikes so special? I am not that familiar with vintage italian road bikes.
The man who made them. His record with Gloria, Stucchi, Cinelli. And the beauty of the work.
If you are doing period correct that frame is 1973. Sold as frame only, no build sheets for these. |
