Bottom bracket storage tip

Found a new use for the fat bands used for binding broccoli, asparagus etc.

Does a great job of holding all those goodies together, just wrap around one side of spindle, half twist, wrap around the other.

Nice idea!

One downside - if you have been at this as long as I you may discover upon opening the box/drawer where you have stored the BB assemblies that all of the rubber bands have failed due to ye olde O3 molecule, leaving a sea of loose fittings in need of remating.

Anything going into long storage I also drop inside a zip-top baggie. It'll hold exponentially longer.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but check back on that BB in about 6-9 months, and you'll find the band has broken (presuming it's latex rather than silicone). Been there. Now natural twine, that won't rot.

Shouldn't this thread be in the C & V hoarders' subforum?

Zip-ties don't degrade like rubber bands. Only works with hollow spindles, though:

Bikes: Current 79 Nishiki Custum Sport, Jeunet 620, notable previous bikes P.K. Ripper loop tail, Kawahara Laser Lite, Paramount Track full chrome, Raliegh Internatioanl, Motobecan Super Mirage. 59 Crown royak 3 speed

If there in good shape I like to keep nicer vintage cranks and BB's together as matching assembles.
